I just got the "Get Windows 8.1 preview for free" popup and clicked "go to store", but it simply opened the Store main page and can't update it because I can't find it on the Store.

Please help.

I did that in the first place. And got the above popup but I don't get the Store page of 8.1
Also I've tried the ISOs but they make me reinstall everything

Where can I find the Store page for 8.1? I've tried searching it but I cannot find anything.

I'll explain it better.

Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64 was installed and rebooted

Got the install Windows 8.1 preview message after boot

Clicked on go to store, the store opened in the MAIN PAGE instead of the Windows 8.1 installation page.

I can't find it on the store.

Like Edwin and Theog suggested, use the download link provided and download and burn the ISO and boot from ISO and install 8.1 either as an upgrade or custom (custom is the clean install -that wipes your drive before the install). You'll have to scroll down the page some to find the ISO file you need for your PC and the product key for it is just above the downloads.

Just to make sure you know, if you upgrade to the 8.1 preview now...you end up having to reinstall your system later when the full 8.1 comes out. There is no upgrade path from this preview release

Good point pparks1...that's why I have mine installed via Hyper-V just for testing purposes.

If I can remember, after I ran the update enabler KBKB2849636 it took me to the store, as it did you, and a popup appeared on the upper right of the screen asking if you want to update.

Why you do not see that popup, or whatever notification system it is using, seems to be the problem. So some thoughts, possibly you need to sign in to the Microsoft store, or if you are running the Basic Windows 8 and not 8 Pro, I do not know if it works with that. I would also think about some add-on that allows popups or you to allow popups just in case it does use that type of notification.

I don't suppose the country or origin is involved.

I have installed 8.1 on two machines. First one on my desktop as a VM, installed from iso disk. I installed this one from iso because at the time their was no UK English support, running it as a local account. I also installed onto my laptop yesterday from the store, no issues at this time and am using this laptop to post this reply. From this thread, I am aware that I will have to do a clean install when 8.1 is released. To this end I made a recovery usb stick of my old 8 system. If I recover to old system will I be able then to upgrade to 8.1 ?
