    Hi again Theog (and all),

I'm hoping this HWInfo64 BIOS comparison is adequate to substantiate that my laptop BIOS is not UEFI capable. A special thanks to Theog for his interest and willingness to assist:

    Attachment 23911

My desktop is UEFI capable as shown by the image below:

    Attachment 23912

    Zoom to enlarge please.

    Cheers!

    Hi Theog,

That may be; however, there is no indication and/or any UEFI BIOS options displayed in the BIOS. Moreover, it came from the factory with a legacy bios configuration. Also, when I first did a clean install of Win 7 SP1 (from a USB drive), I ended up with a legacy bios installation. Anyway, I wish someone would chime in and confirm they were able to do a clean install of the new Win 8.1 (using the x64 ISO download) and it ended up being a legacy bios installation with the correct partition structure.
Using the Preview Windows 8.1 x64 DVD.

Dual boot Windows 8 & 8.1 in UEFI mode.

    Windows 8.1 in Legacy mode.

Also all three installs, installed without the Microsoft Account Login.

    Hi Theog,

Way to go! So, it must be something amiss with my cheapo Lenovo! I'm also impressed that you were able to bypass the Microsoft Account Login (which I thought was a clear requirement). Thanks for all of your hard work on my issue! Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Hi Theog,

Just wanted to let you know that I have found out that my Lenovo B575 Laptop is using Phoenix SecureCore Tiano firmware but Lenovo has obviously locked out the UEFI portion; however, it is apparently fooling the Win 8 installer. Also, I have already presented my tale of woe to Lenovo support and requested a BIOS update to fix this issue. We'll see what happens. Thanks again!

    Dear JustATest,

Using your method below I was able to fix the boot stuck puzzle in windows 10 tech preview installation on my B575.
Thank you very much, smart head!

I accessed the USB installation drive and deleted the EFI folder and the EFI bootmgr.

Did a clean install and I ended up with the correct partition structure for a legacy installation.

    Cheers!
