    Dual Booting

Recently bought a new Samsung laptop with Windows 8 installed and would have preferred to have been able to use my Microsoft Windows 7 installation disk so I could dual boot between the two systems but when I visited forums for information on how to do this the replies frightened me to death as to an old rookie such as me they appeared very complex and involved and way beyond my capabilities, pity.

First thing, what type of Windows 7 install disc do you have? If it is an "OEM" version that was supplied with a PC or an OEM version that you purchased, it can only legally be installed on the original computer.

Dual booting with two OS' is not that hard. There are many tutorials on this and most of it is automatically done by the Windows install program. You do need a separate hard drive or at least a separate partition on the existing hard drive to install Win 7.

Check out the instructions in this thread from theog Dual Booting Windows 7 with Windows 8 Pre-Installed UEFI

When dual booting with Windows 8 Preinstalled & Windows 7

Follow Step one to five in this tutorial:
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7
Warning you must have the uEFI/BIOS firmware setting in Step Three set.

    warning   Warning
If you shrink C: before deleting the OEM Recovery partition, the C: & the new partition may be converted to Dynamic partitions.
You DO NOT WHAT Dynamic partitions.

Than follow this tutorial: (installing in uEFI mode.)

To answer Fireberd's query as to what my Microsoft installation disks are puts me in a quandary. When I bought my first computer three years ago it was equipped with Vista, then Windows 7 was released and my son was running it and thought it was great so I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium from PC World and it has two disks,32 and 64 bit, complete with product key.For the last two years I have run the 64 bit on my old Toshiba laptop with no problems. The new laptop I purchased ten days ago is a Samsung NP350E7C-SO2UK MODEL.
In response to the picture that Theog shows I would advise that when I go into the Bios system and enter the Boot tab there is no way of changing the Boot priority option and no sign of anything saying CSM.
If anyone of you could explain in simple step by step instructions how to dual boot I would be extremely grateful, but please do remember that I am in my 88th year and not as sharp as I used to be,plus you could say I am a computer illiterate so you would be taking on a gigantic task.

Have browsed through the pages you suggested and to be quite honest find them very confusing and beyond my comprehension.Quite a great deal of what is shown in pictures is not available on my machine,or if it is unable to find anything similar. Will have to soldier on with W8 and hope Microsoft will reintroduce more W7 attributes.

There are a couple of programs that will restore the Start button and the Start menu (and allow starting at the desktop , just like Windows 7).

I use the paid product Start8. It makes Win 8 look and act just like Win 7. If I want I can go to the Tiles screen, but with Start8, it starts at the Desktop, just like Win 7.

Start8 ? Download the Windows 8 start menu
