Migrating Win7 & Win8 frm a BIOS computer to UEFI computer

Question: How would you approach this migration?

I just bought a copy of Acronis True Image 2013 with Plus Pack. It appears that this is all I need as True Image will install the new motherboard drivers as part of the migration process. But do I stay with MBR or move to GPT?

Presently both Win7 (on a 120GB SSD drive) and Win8 (on a different 120GB SSD drive) are both MBR format. I don't want to start over from scratch. That's why I bought the Acronis 2013 with Plus Pack.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Why would you need GPT on a drive less than 3 TB ? I'm not sure if TRIM on SSD would work on it.

Aren't there other advantages to GPT? If not, then you're right. Why do it.

If TRIM is not supported then I suppose it's a no brainer. MBR is the winner !

Not aware of any other advantages but that and maybe some UEFI bios, check for that one too. As you have an Intel system check for newest IRST drivers too while you are at it. Some say they can do wanders for SSD performance.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.

Well, I'm about to take the leap. Wish me luck.

UPDATE: Success ! I stuck with MBR. However I had to call Microsoft about a half dozen times to reactivate Win7, Win8, and Office 2010 on both OS's and then to reactivate my Acronis. Microsoft's computer couldn't understand when I said how many previous installs I had, and so I had call back and try again. And then I failed again. Boy that's irritating... Anyway, I hope I don't have to go through that again for awhile...

Will it be possible to boot Windows 8 from a GPT partition using BIOS (not UEFI)? I'll be using the 64bit version. Technically, I know it's possible as I'm doing it with FreeBSD, many Linux distros etc. Using hybrid MBR/GPT, I've read others have Win7 booting off GPT partitons as all. I'd...

Just a thought...... Currently we build around 80,000 pc's a year here, with a fairly low attach rate of Nvidia Cards (Geforce G210, Quadro 600 and Quadro 2000D). I was just speaking to one of my Taiwanese colleagues who said their new G210 VGA Cards with a UEFI Bios will not work on Windows 7...
