Trying to install Windows 8 Dev 64bit from USB (used Windows 7 DVD/USB Flash Tool from MS' site).

It boots off USB fine, but then I get the errors shown in screenshot?

Running netbook, ASUS UL20A.

It happened to me once with Win7 and a Megaware rig. I had to install another DVD drive in my rig to install.

Having the same issue on a Dell e6400, tried everything, even changing my SATA controller from ahci to ata in bios, still the same error, also re-downloaded the iso, tried to install from a burned dvd and usb. Not having any luck

Having EXACTLY the same problem -- and tried the very same thing, with the same LACK of success.

In my case, I have a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD motherboard using both AHCI and IDE SATA modes.

I first tried with the drive connected in AHCI mode -- got that error screen. Then, changed the BIOS to SATA IDE mode -- got the same error screen.

Downloaded both the IDE and AHCI SATA drivers from the AMD site for my motherboard. In the case of AHCI, Win8 loads them but then errors out saying it still can't find any devices. In the case of the IDE drivers, it claims they are incompatible with Windows 8 or my hardware -- doesn't indicate WHICH is the case.

All of these are BOGUS claims because I have different SATA drivers connected in different modes -- and they both work just fine using Win7 Pro 32-bit.

And, the driver in use came from the Gigabyte site, and they're both for Windows 7.

The problem is not with the ISO. As I said before try another dvd drive.

I'm not using a DVD -- I'm using a USB stick -- and I tried ALL of the USB ports and get the same error, regardless.

UPDATE: As a last resort, created a DVD using the same ISO file -- and the install gets far enough now to ask me what type -- Upgrade or Custom. And, most importantly, this is without doing anything to the AHACI/SATA settings. I am going to try for a full install later, but for now, this looks like a problem with the MS USB boot creation tool.

I am glad I found this thread. I am having the same exact problem using Boot Camp on mac…But this was from DVD with a clean install

I will be watching to see if that works. I wonder if trying 32 bit would work.

Indeed so. I made one with the MS tool, and got the same errors listed here.

After some research... I downloaded another ISO, and then burned it on the same machine, same DVD burner, but with CDBurnerXP's Iso burner, and tada, it worked.

I kind of which I had used the original ISO, but I wasn't interested in burning coasters to test. Hearing another result of not using the MS tool, I'm thinking it's that myself now, but...

Anyway, another 're-download & re-burn' fix here.

@Fxt,
That statement refers to the larger size iso that includes the dev tools.

I still am trying to get this thing going. Has anyone gotten past this? I redownloaded and returned but no deal.
Had to install it on VM for now.

i installed from usb pendrive just fine ( using M$ tool)
i3 2120
ASrock h61del mobo
4 gb ddr3 ram
no dvd or cdrom drives

Windows 7 was allready installed so i shrank the win 7 partition by 50gb and created a new partition for win 8
inserted my pendrive booted from it and windows 8 installed in @15 mins without any problems at all and minimal input from me

from what im reading (both in this forum and others) the m$ tool doesnt seem to work for every machine the same way it has for me
