    Delete a Window 8 partition

I tried to search the forums but I couldn't find a clear enough (for my limited knowledge) solution to my problem.

My disk situation is as in the attached screenshot.
I have two Windows 8 installed on 2 different partitions of the same SSD.
Now I would like to remove the first installation, Win8 (H: )

The problem is that the Win8 (H: ) partition is marked as System, Active so from reading the forum I know there may be some problems with bootmgr... but I can't understand exactly what to do^^

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Tacchan, and welcome to Eight Forums.

First, you'll need to have either a Windows 8 installation DVD/USB, Windows 8 System Repair Disc, or Windows 8 Recovery Drive to be able to do an Automatic Repair when finished with the steps below to repair the boot manager.

    1. Boot into your second Windows 8.
    2. Make the second Windows 8 your default OS to boot to if not already.
    3. Open Disk Management, and mark as active the second Windows 8 partition.
    4. Mark as inactive for the first Windows 8 partition.
    5. Only remove the drive letter for the first Windows 8. Do not delete or format the partition for the first Windows 8 yet. This way if needed, you could always add the drive letter back (at boot in a command prompt if needed) if unable to boot from the second Windows 8 when finished with all these steps until able to.
    6. See if you are able to boot directly to the second Windows 8.
    7. If not, then boot from your installation DVD/USB, System Repair Disc, or Recovery Drive, and run an Automatic Repair. You may need to run it a few times with a restart between each time.
    8. If everything is successful and you can boot directly to the second Windows 8, then you could format the first Windows 8 partition to use as you like.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks a lot for the reply!
Before I try to follow the steps you suggested, I was searching the forum a bit more and found this post about moving the bootmgr:
Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD - Windows 7 Help Forums

Could this also apply to my case or it's for a different situation?

    Thanks again

There's really no need to since the second Windows 8 partition already shows as the "Boot" drive, but it essential does the same as what doing an Automatic Repair would do.

If you like, you could use it to move the bootmgr to the second Windows 8 partition to make sure it is. Afterwards, test to see if you are able to boot directly to the second Windows 8.

In the end I used EasyBCD to move the bootmgr to my new windows 8 partition and after that I was able to delete the older partition.
    Thanks again!
