So the thing was I had my laptop reformat, and the windows 7 on it is gone. Now I have to install a new OS then one my friend suggest that I should install windows 7 then buy a Windows 8 upgrade. Can I really upgrade a fake windows 7 to a legal windows 8?

If all youve done was format your drive, you might be able to unformat it, as long as nothing was written to it since..

Youll have to put your harddrive into another system as an additional drive to repair it..

Heres a couple of partition utilities

Unformat software/utility/tool to recover data from formatted hard drive disk or FAT/NTFS volumes.

AOMEI Partition Assistant ? free disk partition manager software, helps you to resize partitions, merge partitions etc.

You dont want to recover the data, you want to fix the drive..

If you cant fix the drive you can use the recovery part of the program to get most of your personal files back

You can not upgrade fake Windows 7 with a Windows 8 upgrade.
you will need the full version of Windows 8.

The partition program was to bring back your windows 7, It is not meant to upgrade to Windows 8.

Hi there,

what I miss is the most simple sollution. You say that you've formatted your harddrive. Well, that is troublesome, but not devestating. You still should have a STICKER on the bottom of your laptop with the Windows 7 activation key on it.

So the sollution is simple. Download an 'illegal' copy of your Windows 7 version. Install it and activate it with your legal Windows 7 key.

Et voila, done!

Then you can think about upgrading to Windows 8 if you'd like.

Good luck with it.

You're welcome!

Just remember to install exact the same copy as you have a licence of. So, if you have for example a licence of Home Premium Dutch. You must install Home Premium Dutch for your own licence key to work ;).
