HDD Dmg. No Backup, Bios 8 key. Quick way to re-install?

    Hey all.

I have a HP Envy Sleekbook 6-1111nr. It came stock with Windows 8.

The HDD was irreparably damaged, and I never had a chance to make a recovery USB (No one's fault but my own.)

HP says that I'd need to order a recover USB for them, and wait until it ships. I'm in the Military, and live in Okinawa. Shipping to APO, AP addresses takes around 2+ weeks on average.

I'm aware that the bios has the Windows 8 product key essentially hardcoded into it. Is there a workaround to getting my system up and running again without having to wait for USB recovery media in the mail?

    Welcome to EightForums.

If you have a Genuine Microsoft Windows 8 x64 DVD, you can do a clean with the DVD.
As the installer will find embedded key in the BIOS.

Thanks, Theog, I'm aware of how to do that, but the issue lies with -obtaining- that DVD.

My computer didn't have any additional recovery media with the packaging.

HP is sending me a recovery USB, but I was hoping to get this done sooner, rather than later.

How would I go about obtaining a Windows 8 ISO image?

//Edit - by that, I mean are there any workarounds? I'm not trying to illegally use the image, as my PC has a valid license for that OS.

The only legal ISO download is the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, which you would need to buy.

    Thanks. That's unfortunate.

From searching other -less than legal- sites, I'm unable to find an untouched version.

I'm currently on with Microsoft Support in hopes that they'll pity me enough to let me download one for free.

If that fails - is there a workaround? Again, I'm not hoping to use this for widespread pirate-style dissemination - just for my already-licensed PC.
