Installed win 8 developers 32bit to my old Aspire 1660 (6 years old) and it works :D

but during the boot process my only option is to start win 8 with no option for my XP os.

Checked with explorer and my XP os is still in its partition.....anybody else had this....

Yeah, I had that problem too. My Acer Aspire 5732Z had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Windows XP Professional 32 bit set up as a dual boot, and after I installed Windows 8 Developer Preview 32bit, only Windows 7 showed up in the new boot selection menu, and if I clicked on Windows 7, it would go straight to it. I'm kinda hoping there's a fix for this or I just missed something...

Looks like xp is considered end of life and not recognized as a valid os....

How do we boot into XP now.......

Hi there
since the boot mechanisms are totally different a possible solution (I haven't used this for AGES so it's only a suggestion) is to use a 3rd party Boot manager which dynamically HIDES the XP or W8 partition so you only boot the OS you want.

Of course if you do this then either OS won't see or have access to the other OS'es "C" drive.

Otherwise :

Some of the posts on Dual booting W7 and XP might be relevant too --have a look in the W7 Forums.

Another option for XP is to run it as a VM -- although you would need to install vmware / vbox / virtual pc on W8 -- that could be another issue but might be worth a bit of fun to try it.

You could also possibly try re-installing XP --- I believe in dual boot scenarios you should install the NEWER OS first -- I tend to avoid dual boot since virtual machines usually provide all the facilities I require from the legacy OS (XP) such as older printers / scanners etc.

Cheers
jimbo

Thanks for the heads up on checking the win 7 forums "jimbo45", I found a thread that refered to Easybcd 2.1 ( EasyBCD 2.1 and Some Big Changes — The NeoSmart Files ) free for home use.

That gave me the option of booting to my XP and win 8 partitions ....so all is well again.

Yup, EasyBCD worked, simple to install through win 8, setup was automatic, just name the partitions to what suits you, reboot and select.

Hmm, for some reason, when I tried to change it around, it took an awfully long time to load the boot menu, and even then, it didn't show Windows XP. Can you show me how yours looks (through the overview)?

It probably should be of note that I installed 8 on a Virtual Hard Disk on my C drive. Did you do that or did you partition yours and put 8 on said partition?

Edit: Never mind, I just edited the System Settings as shown here (near the bottom):

http://www.blogsaays.com/windows/dual-boot-windows-8-with-windows-xp-windows-7/

And it brought the old boot manager back.

Just read your post, glad you got it working, my windows 8 was installed on it's own partition, so your install is not quite the same.

Edit: Boot manager looks the same as on the site you posted.
