    Downgrade to Windows 7 problem

    Hey everbody,

    i just bought a asus k55a a week ago,
and my frustration level is pretty high :-)

To be honest, i do not like windows 8 at all.
Now, since two days i trying to simply get rid of it and install windows 7,
as i do want to use it instead of the windows 8.

Well i though i just change the boot-order,
put in the windows7 dvd and install it, the way im used on desktop pc.
Put i guess its not that simple.

    I found a tutorial here:
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7

But whatever i do, i cant get to bios at all!
I tried pressing every single key on my keyboard to get into bios or simple the bootscreen to change it to dvd,
but no, it will not let me do it.

I dont even see anything when i start the laptop.
Everything is just pretty much black until windows8 is booted and i can login to my useraccount.
There is no bootscreen or asus-logo or whatsoever...

I really searched a lot, but i dont find anybody with the same problem,
not even being able to access tthe bootscreen/bios!

Hope someone here will be able to help me,
getting rid of windows 8 and bringing the sunshine back

    thank you
    fikxi

I know this sounds lame but you might not be pressing the key early enough. With my Asus laptop (UX31A), I use the Escape key (boot menu; F2 will get you to the BIOS) and mash it the moment I press the power button. By default these systems are set to POST with as minimal time required as possible (fast boot) so it may only have a window of a couple seconds.

    or
you go UEFI/BIOS firmware from Advanced options.

Tried it again, still no nothing. The Laptop will still just boot to windows 8.

Yes, i also did that and restarted the laptop, but than nothing happens at all
Or did i do anything wrong regarding the Advanced options? I followed the Tutorial i linked, but never got into Bios.

EDIT: tried this one again, and i think it worked, but my screen is just not showing the bios think, insteed just blank screen. i had to restart the laptop using the power-botton in order to start windows normally.

Try holding the F2 key down on boot.

    Win7

I recently installed WIn7 in a Dual Boot with Win8 on that model Asus laptop, and it required booting into UEFI BIOS via the Advanced Boot Options as Theog displayed in order to disable Secure Boot. If this will not work then I would contact Asus Support for the help necessary for entering BIOS setup.

In BIOS setup>Boot tab there will be two settings changes available for Secure Boot. I had to disable the second one before it would change the first one.

You can then either install, or test if Win7 is to your liking in a Dual Boot by shrinking C to create a Logical partition for install.

When I had done this due to other dissatisfaction with the laptop I removed the Dual Boot and returned it. If you run into Problems you can also run Asus Factory Recovery via F8 Repair console.

Yes, the problem is, i cant even get into BIOS. Whatever i do, its just not showing.
Almost like the graphic-card wont show anything until windows starts.

I opened a support-ticket, so maybe they can help me figure out...
Ive never seen anything like that before than not even the bootscreen or mainboard logo shows up at all before windows starts...

    Thank you tho!

    Hi there
OK an Old fashioned Engineers solution !!!!

    1) Open up the laptop and remove the HDD -- this is usually VERY EASY since these days people often swap the standard HDD for an SSD.
    2) now try boot -- you should get the BIOS as there's no BOOT device in the machine -- .

(Note usually any of these keys will get you into the BIOS - depends on the PC --- DEL, F8, F2, F12, F10 - just try them all in turn).

    Cheers

Hi Gregrocker. I have just found this forum and it may be the answer to my problem. Every where I have searched says its impossible to install win7 on a partition of a win8 machine. I see that you have done it. Could you point me some links on how to please. I have a Lenovo g580 with windows 8 and I would love to be able to dual boot windows 7. If its not possible to dual boot as every one seems to think would vm be the way to go or a bootable usb maybe??

    TIA
