I tried to install Win 8 on 32bit machine and on a 64-bit in virtual machine (Virtual Box).
In all casses the installation failed.
Running the 32-bit installtion, it proceeds as expected and then I am getting:
Capture.PNG

Trying the 64-bit I cannot even get that far. I am getting:
Capture2.PNG

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks.

1. built a new Virtual box machine
2. Put the Win8 (32bit) DVD in the host drive
3. Powered up the virtual machine
4. VM started reading from the DVD
5. Windows starts installing, went through the normal stages until getting the error message pictured.

That error happens usually when the ISO is corrupt

I downloaded the 32 bits again and this time used Microsoft "Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool" to burn my DVD Instead of Roxio). That seems to work and installation was finished. I have other problems when trying to run W8 the second time (permission problems) but I gues I can call the 32-bit installation a success of sorts.
I tried the same procedure on the 64-bit stuff but this time I am still getting the black screen (see above).

Either there was a problem with the iso and how you burn it or VMware is having issues installing W8. Can you try installing W7 on vmware both 64 and 32 and see if you are getting the same issues?

VMWare player is a nogo. I don't have VMWare workstation so I will have to stick with Virtual Box. Will follow the tutorial tah shoawn suggested.

I followed instructions in Shawn;s post. That seems to work. My guess is that I did not specify "windows7-64" at the setup of the VirtualBox. Now it is all installed.
Thanks for all the people who participated in this thread.
