Solved W8 64bit OEM install but need setup files!

Hi,

I tried using Acronis True Image 13 but it rendered my drive unbootable.
To add insult to injury, I don't have the OEM set up disks and the reserved
partition from HP is gone, thanks to the aforementioned Acronis.

The key is in the BIOS so I just need to download W8 64 bit OEM as an installer
but all I can find is the MS Upgrade Assistant version which won't work for my OEM
serial, I tried. Twice.

Anyone know where I can download the correct setup files?

Thanks

David

Hi,

Thanks for the help and reply...

The HP link won't help me because the HP partition that once held the recovery image is gone.
I need an external installation medium, as the HP link also indicates when it says "If your HP computer with Windows 8 does not have the HP recovery program, or if the recovery disc set or USB drive was not created before the recovery partition was damaged or erased, you will need to find a set of the HP recovery discs that match your model number from the Internet or install a new operating system."

EDIT:
I am hoping to find something I can download rather than have the laptop disabled while waiting for a disc from HP.

What exactly did you try to do with Acronis? I use it and have restored my computer several times with no problems.

I created a restore point, then tried to recover said restore point.
In previous versions, the gui was very user friendly, designed for the home
user or novice. This version asked me to make manual partition selections
by choosing which recovered partition would go to which partition on the
recipient drive. In my case, there was one more in the "from" column than
in the "to" column.

The earlier versions I've used made these determinations based on the drives
and changed partition sizes and it always worked fine. More like a point and shoot
camera, this version is more like a DSLR camera. I'll admit, the error may have
been mine but that doesn't negate the issue I am in.

Luckily I found these three links which helped me install from the Windows 8 Pro
I purchased back when MS had that promo for $38 bucks.

I don't understand the purpose of your post.

When I first posted I forgot I had even purchased the Windows 8 Pro
when MS had the promotion. It occurred to me some time later.
Initially I just wanted to restore the OEM W8 basic version, hence the
original post.

Post 5 is my own comment where I posted links that solved my issue.
Had you posted your links the day before, they would have saved me
the time searching online.

For general info related to the issue you raise, see this thread ignoing the computer-specific discussion: Windows 8 "Standard Edition"?. I emphasize that, as you have found, your embedded product key will not work in getting what you want.
