So fun situation I find myself in, I purchased an SSD to install in my laptop (my laptop supports 2 hard drives). The laptop came preinstalled with windows 8, I do have back up images of my current set up, but the hard drive that I am currently using is much larger and has much more data than the ssd can hold on it so I can not install windows 8 using that image. I tried following this tutorial: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-upgrade-iso-download-create.html but when I get to the step where you enter your product code it states that my product code can not be used to download the iso file I need to do a clean install. not entirely sure how to proceed without purchasing a product key from Microsoft which I would rather not do. And before any one asks or suggests it I can not find a way to get the media I need from the system manufacturer.

That link appears to be broken, and it wasn't an up grade it came pre-installed on the laptop when I purchased it I simply wish to install windows 8 on a new SSD and use the old hard drive as a data drive, but I can not find a windows 8 iso any where without having to pay for the same operating system I already have again.

Backup the whole disk first to an external data drive, just in case.

For a clean install you don't need upgrade ISO since the same key from the OEM will be used again: If I'm correct, you want to replace the system, with C:drive, from the HDD to the SSD but keep any data partitions (if available) in the HDD.

There are many possibilities and some backup programs available.

If you use the built-in Win7 recovery mode:
You will need to make a backup image of the system without any data partitions (there are a few small partitions in begin of the disk to take along, with UEFI one or two extra partitions too) but try to shrink the one containing Windows down to a size that fits on the SSD. Then reboot and restore to the new disk.

Now it can get a little rough with this solution,
One problem: the boot files from the first disk need to be deleted.... It would be better to switch positions of the laptop drives after you've backuped all up (or tell the BIOS to boot from the second disk if possible) that way the system won't have issues at boot because the same exact settings apply from before the backup.

    That's basically it.
If you are going to do a clean install anyway, just do a system recovery and bring your computer back to factory settings. But backup your files as the drive will be wiped out and do a factory install. This will shrink your drive back and make a clone of it on your SSD. Do this as your last resort if you can't find a way to download a clean image.

FYI, see this thread. Some of what is covered will not be pertinent to you at this point, and ignore the later part of the thread where personal computer issues are discussed (but do see post #16).

Why not backup your data off computer (mentioned above)? Then, restore to factory fresh. Of course, the install would still contain the bloatware (but would be clean otherwise). After returning to factory fresh, you could use:

Clone via Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 (And, see Paragon 12 now supports Windows 8.)

I have the exact same laptop as you ... Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809. I just added a second hard drive yesterday. I was able to do a clean install of Windows 8 to the new hard drive by downloading this Windows 8 ISO ---> en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso. Just do a Google search for it, shouldn't be too difficult to find. Before you can install, you will need to go into the BIOS and change from UEFI to Legacy mode and change the boot order to boot from the CD first.

On our Acer laptops, the CD KEY is imbedded in the BIOS. When I used the Windows 8 CD made from the ISO above, the CD KEY was automatically entered for me and the correct version of Windows installed....which in my case was the Core edition. The cd also contains the Pro edition, so if your laptop came pre-installed with Pro, it should install that version instead.

The only drivers I had to install myself was the one for the media card reader and the wireless lan driver, which you can download off Acer's website --> Acer | Download. All the other drivers were installed after running a Windows update. I now have a fully activated Windows 8 without all the junk that comes preinstalled from Acer.
