    windows 8 64 bit wll not boot - pci-e 2.0 problem?

I have a very old system but it works perfectly well as a media centre.

it is a 64bit system but I realised after I upgraded to windows 8 recently that windows 8 installed as a 32 bit operating system. I have been trying to perform a fresh install of windows 8 64bit but there appears to be a problem with my pci-e 2.0 x16 graphics card.

I cannot boot from the windows 8 64 bit dvd to fresh install the operating system with the pci-e 2.0 x 16 graphics card in the system. the system stalled at the initial windows 8 boot logo

I didn't know it was the graphics card initially but read in another forum that there was a problem with the 64 bit bootloader and pci-e 2.0 x16 slot, so i installed an old pci graphics card and the installation went fine - windows 8 64bit up and running - but as soon as i put the original pci-e graphics card back in the pc hangs at the initial boot logo.

was hoping somebody may be able to suggest a fix or am i stuck with windows 8 32bit or windows 7 64 bit - both of which install without problems?

    any help appreciated

Make sure that you have a latest BIOS firmware updated.

Make sure UEFI or AHCP is turned off in bios. Also why not just remove the card, restart and leave it for half an hour while it installs.

When it's installed put graphics card back in but boot into safe mode then download correct driver. Also ensure you don't have anything plugged into USB slots while installing as sometimes these can cause PC to freeze
