Just bought a Asus G75VW-9Z39611 and find it has Windows 8,which I am not enamoured with.As there is three drives D,E and F with nothing on would it be possible to install my Windows 7 Home Premium from the disc I have to one of these drives without causing any problems. If the answer is no then could I remove Windows 8 and reinstall my Windows 7 from my disc without any problems. If the answer to any of my questions is positive then could someone who knows what they are doing guide me through the process as I am no technocrat and need all the help I can get.

Help

The computer came with Windows 8 installed on drive C but drives D,E and F are empty.I have the Windows 7 disc that I used on my old computer and which is not in use now.
Had a look at what you suggested above for dual booting but the directions are for adding Windows 8 to a system that has Windows 7 but I want to go in the opposite direction.Have Windows 8 on drive C and want to load Windows 7 to either drive D,E or F.

Show us a screenshot of your disk management page, right click bottom left corner of screen... one partition is a small recovery that should be left alone. Using the Sources folder of your windows 7, find the setup.exe, this allows for a custom install to the partition of your choice. The setup.exe in the root folder would overwrite your windows 8 partition, don't boot from the cd.

We seem to be at cross purposes here as there is no Windows 7 on this computer so unable to use any folder, also unable to understand your request for a view of the computer discs.

You said you have a Windows 7 disk. The Sources folder on this disk is what you would use the setup.exe file to install Windows 7 to the Win8 computer.

Am getting more confused by the minute.Did try popping the Windows 7 disk in the computer and tried to download over Windows 8 but part way through everything came to a shuddering halt and had to bale out fast. The ideal I am looking for is to be able to dual boot as there is ample disks available.Drive C has Windows 8 on,drive D has a small amount on,drives E and F are empty and about 350 gb sized.I am no technocrat and could be classed as illiterate with computers so need explicit detailed guidance with anything as complicated as attempting the above.
Having now had a chance to see how involved and complicated the two options are,and me being a rookie at computers,I now think it would be the safest option to leave well alone before the wheels drop off my computer.

Hello, willden. Welcome to EightForums. :)

I see you're having a little trouble with all this. Rest assured I'm like you. I'm not as savvy at this stuff as others are here. I sense your fear of doing something wrong. I know what that's like. Like you, I need things laid out for me before I proceed.

I think I know what you want to accomplish. You want to use 7 of which you're familiar with while you learn 8. This is what I'm doing.

Being a member here for awhile, rest assured that theog is one of the kings of installs here. He knows his stuff for sure. If I state anything I say wrong here I'm sure he or someone will correct me.

First thing is eUFI (secure boot in BIOS) is something new, needs to be understood, and will stop any other install in it's track do to security. Please read up on it. It can be turned off, but probably not advisable.

If you look at my specs you'll see that I dual boot with 7, but I had 7 first with no uEFI, for it's an older machine. Ideally it's better to have 7 first then load 8, but that's not your case, although installing 7 afterward will work.

First thing is that if you load 7 it may void your warranty on your new machine. Have you looked into that? If so, is that what you want to do? Do you have another machine you can load 7 on? Either way, will your copy be within the EULA?

You do not want to load 7 over 8 since you desire to dual boot, therefore you must be careful of which partition you pick to do so during install. You probably have an OEM recovery partition you would want to save and protect. Even though Windows disk service says it's empty it may not be, for sometimes it may not read it correctly because it's an OEM recovery partition. Usually it will. Personally I stripped mine out, but one must take much care in doing so.

If you desire to go further, please answer these questions and we'll proceed from there. Sound good?

Again, welcome. :)

Any resolution to replacing windows 8 with windows 7?

First of all do you have a windows 8 dvd? If not do you have a Windows 8 cd-key sticker on your computer?

If you dont have a CD but have the sticker, download the Windows 8 dvd iso from microsoft, you may need it to fix the boot menu later. Get the same version that is stated on your sticker (home) (pro) or (mediaCenter)

And burn it to a DVD

If you dont have the cd or the sticker then just go ahead and boot from the Windows 7 dvd and install it on the 350GB drive
when youre done you should have a dual boot system and you will be given the choice of which system you want to run at startup

The only difference is you may have a Win 8 loader or a Win 7 loader. One is prettier and the other is more user friendly... But both will startup your windows fine..

I have a dual boot Win 7 and Win 8, and I love it!! Btw you can get a Windows 7 theme for your Windows 8 system thatll bring back that 7 look with the extra functions of 8..

Make sure you have the Win7 CD-Key handy before you start..

Good luck!!

Negative to the first two questions and as the touchpad was overly sensitive and there being no way to desensitise it,plus other things which made it unsuitable for purpose,I returned the computer to the retailer for refund. As I think Windows 8 is a load of rubbish and unable to purchase a new computer with Windows 7 installed I have decided to stay with my old Toshiba workhorse until Microsoft come to their senses and modify that drivel they have imposed on the public.Should Microsoft insist on W8 in it's existing form then I may give Apple a try, just have to wait and see.
In closing may I thank all who have tried to help me,much appreciated.

since you need a dual boot... i would suggest you to have your win7 CD a bootable one... or else after installing win7 wont load up.. (maybe sometimes )
so make yourself sure that you have a bootable disc... after that check whether the partition on which you are installing is a primary partition... logical partition don't support any executable things of windows.... after that go ahead and install...
edit: be aware that you should'nt have more than 4 partitions or else the HD will become dynamic and you cannot install any os expect on the C: volume
all the best for your installation.......... after installing do remember to install your MB drivers with latest versions :)

With Windows 8 or Windows 7 installed in UEFI/GPT mode, you can have 128 Primary Partitions.
All new Windows 8 Pre-installed are install in UEFI/GPT mode.

I have 3 hard drives on my machine original is windows 7 ultimate. (drive c) I then installed windows 8 pro as dual boot, (drive f)
working great, but now I am happy with windows 8 being my only OS. its much quicker. I never thought of the MBR, which is on drive c. How do install an mbr for windows 8 only as I do not want to reinstall it. I then want to format the drive windows 7 is on.
if i disconnet the other drives, leaving only the win 8 drive, it won't boot anything, other than a cd

Half way they.

Welcome to EightForums.

Physically disconnect the all HD Drive.
Make the Windows 8 HdD, disk0 & first HD boot in BIOS.Also connected to the first Sata port on the MOBO.
Than do a Auto Repair first,

How to do a Auto Repair:

Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.

When Windows is booting OK, replace all HD Drive back in, & make sure you mark the Windows 7 HD Drive INACTIVE:
