Hello
Below is a link that I use to install Office 2010 but do not know what to do if that site no longer exists.
I went through heck to tell MS that my Dell will not work with office 2010 32 bit; it only works with 64 bit.
We tried with both desktop and laptop and 32 bit would not open.
Dell does not help unless paid.

If I try this and it fails or is removed, what would you suggest I do to get the 64 bit Office 2010?
I got this from MS once but am afraid I might not be so lucky the next time.
Thank you
Peter

Why would you NOT be able to run the 32bit version of Office? That's actually what Microsoft recommends even when running a 64bit OS.

Hi there
I run the 32 bit version of Office 2010 and am satisfied with it -- but I think the recommendation was during the initial release. I think it's OK to run the 64 bit version now -- but if you use some 3rd party EXCEL add ins and tools they won't automatically work in the 64 bit version.

Incidentally I don't recommend Office 2013 - especially if you use Outlook -- unless you are connected to your HOME ISP you can't set up any email accounts -- to finish setting up an email account in Outlook 2013 Outlook attempts to test the account you've created --if it fails then the account won't be created and there's no option (unlike outlook 2010) to skip the "Test account".

This renders OUTLOOK 2013 totally useless if you are setting it up away from your home ISP (Some ISP's block their SMTP ports for SENDING email when you are not logged on to their system -- you can always receive however).

I REALLY HATE Web mail type of clients -- Outlook is just fine - and just being able to RECEIVE is good enough generally -- but OUTLOOK 2013 totally hoses that up -- so stay with Office 2010.

Cheers
jimbo

Office 2010 64 bit

I don't know why the 32 bit office 2010 that came preinstalled in my Dells will not work but when you try to install the link, it is not accepted.
As I said, we tried that many times even with the MS agent on the line directing us.
Dell sends you to a pay support center.
So, although I have a link now, I am concerned it may not always be there.

It is possible links are upgraded.

I guess I would call MS again, if necessary, and ask for advice.

There shouldn't be any issues with 32bit, I agree.
I run 64bit and it's running fine. So I don't always follow what's recommended. ;)

Hi Jimbo,

don't really see your problem here. I'm running Office 2013 Pro x64. Just now I've tried adding a FAKE emailaccount with a FAKE POP and SMTP serveraddress.

==> It works.

You just have to chose the MANUAL configuration and after you've put in the account information the option to UNCHECK the testing of the account becomes available. Just uncheck it and press finish.

Besides that.... I think it is more the problem here that some ISP's won't allow the usage of other SMTP servers. My ISP for instance does allow other SMTP servers. IMHO this is not an error of MSFT.

Greetz,

Rover
