    Upgrade to Win8 failed

I just tried to upgrade my system from win7 Ultimate to win8 with the option to keep all my win7 settings, but it failed to complete the install. After starring at a blank screen save for the spinning dots for several hours, I was left with no alternative but to power off my Pc.

On restarting I was given the 3 options:
    1) Load Win8
    2) Windows recovery
    3) Load Win7

I tried door number 1 first but again resulted in the same blank screen with spinning dots.

I didn't want to try the other 2 options without first getting the opinion of someone with more knowledge than me.

Do I try to recover win7, wipe the disc and start from scratch and lose all my previous settings or what?

    Any help appreciated,

    Mike

NB I have two PCs both of similar spec, on the first one the upgrade was no problem

    Welcome to EightForums.

Try 2 & 3, If Windows 7 boots up, backup your DATA, & do a clean install.

Well the good news us that I eventually managed to get back into my Pc by booting from my Cd and no damage done, everything back prior to attempted upgrade. Phew! Once my blood pressure has dropped a bit, I'll try again.

I would not do an upgrade install. Too frequently upgrade installs go badly. I'd use:

Clean Install - Windows 8 and follow up, if necessary, with

Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade (if need to need to use the refresh procedure to activate Windows 8 after clean install--probably won't since you currently are running qualifying software).

Be sure your data are backed up off computer whichever type of install you decide on.
