    Edit

There is also the notifications option on the settings screen that allows you to switch off notifications for the mail app, this may also help

    Edit 2
there is also an option to set what apps show on the lock screen under personalise
Hi Barman, Thanks allot for helping!

I understood the first option you wrote, but not the second one with the notifications and also not the third one with the Lock screen ?

Can you pls. guide me through?
On the third, go to Charm Bar > Settings > Change PC settings > Personalize. On the second, go Charm Bar > Settings > Notifications.

Yep. Just letting you know what he meant. Why not use a mail app from your desktop. The metro mail app is trash although it is scheduled for some improvement in Win8-SP1 (i.e., Blue ).

Yep. Just letting you know what he meant logistics-wise. Why not use web-based mail from the desktop (e.g., My Yahoo). The metro mail app is trash although it is scheduled for some improvement in Win8-SP1 (i.e., Blue ).

Do a a system restore if you can to get back to where you were. iE is already on the desktop in the taskbar. Use it from there. Also, you could try repining iE to the start screen from "All Apps." Actually, try this before the system restore. Right click on start screen to get to all apps.

Wow, I'm going out on a limb to say you REALLY need a straight up tutorial on how to use Windows 8. Am I correct on this?

Also, if you don't want people on your PC looking at your email, just password protect it and lock, by hitting and L on the keyboard. The Mail app, along with the other apps that you're logged into are like having an internet browser window open at all time refreshing your email. They're internet apps.

Go to the Windows Store (the green tile with the bag) and type in getting started. The first app result should be Getting Started with Windows 8. Go ahead and install that, it's from HP but nonetheless. It has a collection of videos that show you what to do, which I bet would be easiest.

Also, I'll post a bit later on my things on how to make Windows 8 better. It's a list, I'll see if I can find it as it's relevant. By the way, your laptop is a new Windows 8 laptop?
