    reserved partiton

    Hello
In doing a clean uninstall of Win 8 I deleted partitions until I saw C: 800 GB unallocated and clicked next.
I was told the reserved partition would be created.
As you can see a partition was created but not the reserved one. I remember a Dell tech removing the reserved one with Win 7 a year ago.
Did I do something wrong doing the clean install?
    I read all the tutorials.
I wonder why I have no reserved one and what the drawback is? Is there a way to create the reserved if it is worth it?
    Thank you
    Peter

I think after you deleted the partition you should again click on "New Partition" and click on create without changing the size then the System Reserved Partition will be created.

But now if you take my opinion then you should delete the "Unallocated Space" and expand You C:\ drive because if you keep any unallocated space on your HDD then your HDD read speed will subsequently become slow and there would be many error so you should delete the Unallocated space as its not that much important. I have also no System Reserved Drive on my PC but it never gets any error, I have a 120GB SSD as my C:\ drive.

    Hope it helps......

I was doing some reading and they said that with Win 8 the MBR is sometimes hidden when you do a clean install.
Before I remove anything I wanted to ask," What does that mean?

    The MBR is always hidden.

For the System Reserved Partition, take a look at the note at Step 8 in this tutorial:

    clean install Win 8

    Hello
    Do these steps sound correct;

If a reserve partition already exists you DO delete it.

1-delete partitions until you see i.e. 800 GB unallocated
    2-custom
    3-drive opts(adv.)
    4-apply
5-ok and the unallocated 800 GB PLUS the reserve partition is created
    6-next

    Thank you
    Peter

    Hello Peter,

Yes, that would be correct to do a clean install of Windows on an "unallocated" disk to also have the "350 MB System Reserved" partition created during installation.

    problem

I trust you so I don't have to change my folder with notes and thank you.

I don't have a reserved partition and it is probably because when I installed, I deleted partitions until I saw only the 800 GB unallocated and just clicked next.

    Thanks again
    Peter

    Peter,

In steps 7 and 8 in the tutorial below, you would only just click Next if the entire disk (ex: Disk 0) you want to install Windows 8 on is already "unallocated" like in the screenshot under step 7. Otherwise, you would need to do what you posted above for step 8 to make the disk unallocated first, then select the disk and click on Next.

    (from step 8)
    Note   Note
If you want to have (recommended) the 350 MB System Reserved partition in addition to the Windows 8 C: partition on a HDD or SSD after installation, then you would need to make sure that all partitions on the drive have been deleted until it is only unallocated space. Next, select the unallocated drive to install Windows 8 on. If there are no partitions on the disk, you will get the 350 MB System Reserved.

    uh oh

I am sorry but now I am confused.

When I installed, I deleted until I got to 800GB unallocated then clicked next.
This sounds like what is being suggested to do to get the reserve partition.

I don't have the reserve partition to my knowledge - it only show like 100 MB unallocated.

What am I not understanding? I keep reading the tutorial over and over.

I thought my steps were correct.

Is the issue that if 800 unallocated already exists when I get to the partitions all by itself I can click next but if there are any other ones or if it is not unallocated I go through the steps?
