New Stock W8 PC w/ HDD: Moving to SSD Questions

Hi all. I am purchasing a new ASUS All-in-one that comes with an HDD; I want to move to an SSD. I have lots of W7 install experience, but have only used W8 on a touchscreen laptop, so I am not sure how to go about this.

There's a lot of information on HOW to do everything (Which is great), but I need some WHY info first, and it's eluding me.

    • My laptop has an embedded 32GB SSD used for fast start-up. But the new PC doesn't. Since I am moving to an SSD, should I create a partition for this, so that start-up is fast? Or is this partition already part of W8, and the SSD on the other machine just make it fast to load (I.E, I only need to clone the drive to the SSD).
    • Ignoring the possibility of Crapware and customization, is there any benefit to installing from scratch on the SSD rather than cloning?

    Thanks!

Getting out from under the thumbs of both your OEM and MS as far as possible is a good reason for some.

Customizing stock calendar app in Software and Apps
For me it would be much more convenient if it weren't for the early morning hours (0-7) in the week view of the calendar app, which i use the most. As i reckoned, there aren't many options to change the appearance of the app, but perhaps i am missing something. can i somehow change that so the...
Hi everybody The demise of MS is as usual vastly over-hyped -- especially by fans of the "Fruit Company". However I think this article shows a bit more realism. A Techie's Guide to the Future of Microsoft - AAPL, GOOG, MSFT, ORCL, VMW - Foolish Blogging Network Cheers jimbo
