Can't install Windows 8 on Toshiba c850d oem windows 8

  1. #11

Thanks for the reply. Problem is whenever I try and boot upto usb or dvd in uefi it stops with the Toshiba logo and a spinning circle below. Have checked hard drive and memory for errors and all clear. I'm lost for ideas now. Can't do opion 1 as can't boot up win 8 and can't do opion 2 as I have never done opion 1 before. It seems like the bios is stopping me install windows 8 again. Is there nothing I can do as I have all the software and recovery partitions viewable from other laptop when I connect hard drive via usb.
    Thanks Andrew

If you have not made your Startup Repair
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8
Do you have a mate with Windows 8 x64 installed in UEFI mode & CD/DVD RW Drive, who could burn one off.

No I don't know anyone around here as I'm abroard for a further 3 months. Would I be able to download one from somewhere or someone?
Also when I make a bootable dvd or usb it doesn't show up in the bios as uefi it just shows make of dvd drive or usb flash. Does the bootable uefi usb flash have to be made on a 64 bit machine?
    Thanks Andrew

Both the CD/USB Startup Repair disc's, need to be made on a PC with Windows 8 x64 installed in UEFI mode.

You are very welcome. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Don't know where you are, but go to a university--perhaps it academic computing area. Academics tend to be pretty helpful. You might end up with a system-repair disc or with some other in person help.

Thanks for your trouble. So I can make a windows 8 repair disk fron any computer running windows 8 64 bit Uefi and it should boot up my toshiba laptop with windows 8 64 bit uefi oem that doesn't boot?
    Thanks Andrew
If a friend in the UK has windows 8 64bit uefi and make a disk for me could I then download it from him and create my own recovery disk? Does it have to be done by win 8 64bit computer my side.

If your mate posts you the Startup Repair CD, you can use Reset from the CD to reinstall.

That's what theog says, and if any one knows, he does. I agree though. Note that having a system repair disk does not mean you are out of the woods--maybe yes, maybe no. It still has to get you booted. It's not clear to me why you could not boot to your install DVD or flash drive. If you had been able to, then you would have been able to do the same things your can do with a system repair disc or, presumably, do an install.

Maybe: Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7. Don't know if the recovery discs would do what you want if you downgrade. You could buy MS system builder software and install under the personal use license. If you go this route (or the downgrade route), then you may have parted ways with Toshiba for good. I would say good riddance, but you might not think so all things considered.
