A nuance...

Hello,
I believe I've done something quite stupid with installing windows 8 on my laptop. I replaced my dvd drive with a bracket for a hd and installed a brand spanking new ssd in there and installed windows 8 on that, rather than replacing the hd with the ssd and moving the hd to that slot, as it's just meant for storage.
Now it takes the laptop 4 bootups to actually find the ssd.
I don't think the system runs badly or anything, it's just really annoying. I tried witching the drives, but of course that brings a whole mess of problems and the laptop totally refuses to recognize windows anywhere.
Is there some way for me to switch the drives without having to set everything up from scratch again? Maybe some MBR magic trick or something?

Did you set the BIOS boot order to first boot from the dvd drive (which is actually your SSD).

Enter one nuance i forgot to mention: for some reason the former dvd/ now ssd is not available as a boot option in the BIOS settings. Dont know why.

I would put the dvd reader back in, make a permanent setting in the BIOS for the DVD reader as 1st boot device and then switch to the SSD. Maybe that works. It may be a long shot.

'tis just over a year old Toshiba which had Win 7 pre-installed.
...and I believe that I did already set it up to boot first from dvd in the BIOS. I just don't get why it's not available as an option now...

To be honest, I don't know. I've tried searching toshiba's site for more info and it doesn't mention UEFI at all and I don't know about Windows either...

Try using the One Time Boot Menu.

Did that and couldn't find any useful info. Except for the weird thing that the SSD is not recognized in the boot menu, but is noted as the primary hard drive in the system info menu. Odd... It's like they're fighting over one slot...
