Sorry, I read the tutorial on dual boot but am still a little confused. I installed a new SSD and want to install a clean copy of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it while retaining Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my existing HHD. I have an upgrade copy of Windows 8. Will I be able to dual boot with this set-up?
thanks

Where is your Win7 installed? Regardless, I think you will want to start with Win7 installed first. Dual booting from partitions of same drive? or separate drives? UEFI? or Not? Does your Asus P8Z68-V PRO mobo definitely support Windows 8?

Ignoring UEFI, if possible, I'd want to use steps 1, 2, 5, and 7 (to the end) of Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista.

You can upgrade your Windows 7 HP x64 with the Windows 8 upgrade, but to dual boot you will need the full version.

Upgrade to Windows 8 - Microsoft Windows

Purchasing a full version of Windows 8

If you want to build your own PC and install Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro, or want an additional operating system running in either a local virtual machine or separate partition (including a Mac), you can purchase the Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro System Builder products (OEM versions). If available in your country or region, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro System Builder products can be purchased at participating stores, you'll need to ask a sales rep for more info. This version doesn't include customer support.

Windows 7 is already up and running on on a HDD. I am installing a new SSD for Windows 8. Yes my Asus MB does support Win 8.

Sounds good. Looks like you won't be installing under UEFI? But, see the warning at step 1 of Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista just in case.

Like theog says: using MS system builder software installed under the personal-use license may be the approach you'll need to use. The personal-use license sounds more restrictive than it really is. You can install on multiple owned computer, one at a time, as many times as you want. You can install on a single computer as many times as you want given any number and kinds of changes in the computer's hardware. The product key and software are transferable jointly to another after uninstalling.

Note that using Win8 upgrade software should be OK, I think, if you have a product key from qualifying software, other than your dual-boot software, that you are willing to sacrifice.
