    You don't have to.
Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade
Or you can directly boot to setup, create a partition, then install.
Setup will detect a previous OS, but will not overwrite and will not cause activation issues.

Installing with only one Windows 7 licence, would be an ILLEGAL install.

Theog is correct here as always. My apology that I assumed you were using a stand alone edition. I dual boot with an OEM System Builder copy I purchased. One is in violation of the EULA performing this with an upgrade edition.

So far as I know as of two weeks ago the online MS store doesn't carry the System Builder edition, although I noticed yesterday they are selling full stand alone editions now. They must have just released that. I found my edition at another online store.

Although it may be disappointing to you, I hope that helps. Good luck to you.

I got the Windows 8 from Windows themselves. Windows 7 was pre-installed and I don't have any other Windows disks. And my laptop did not come with the Recovery disc or Reinstallation disc

I agree that it should be labeled upgrade, but it doesn't. Originally I called the MS online store before the February 1st deadline. I was explicit in explaining that I wanted the stand-alone OEM System Builder edition. They sent me the upgrade. Ugh! I canceled that and ordered my OEM copy from another store as the said.

If you were told you were getting a stand alone edition, I'd advise you to get on the horn with MS to tell them the situation. Get a refund. Perhaps you may get a stand alone edition at the previous discounted rate. It's worth a try.
