Reinstall Win 8 in UEFI and Acronis Backup

  1. #11

I don't have the original downloaded Win 8 file (that I can find). Just the ISO that I created. Will SIW make the needed UEFI version ISO with that?

OK. I've created the UEFI ISO disc and tried to install. It installed and when it restarted it had an unrecoverable (unrepairable) error. I'm reinstalling again now. I'll see how this one goes.

Same error on second install try:

    Light Blue screen
    Recovery

Your PC Needs to Be Repaired because the kernal is missing or contains errors

    File:\Windows\System 32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Error Code 0xc0000221
    Repair will not fix this.

The hard drive was reformatted to GPT prior to attempting to install.

Just a hopeful thought. Don't know if cleaning your drive before starting the installation would help (doubtful given your message and that repair didn't help), but you could try steps 1) through 4) of SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation and then move on to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 8 with. Be sure and use "clean all" (IMO) in doing the four steps. Doing so will take some time for sure; so don't think it isn't working.

I have been formatting the GPT drive (a 750GB WD drive) with Acronis (booting with the WinPE/Acronis rescue disc). Acronis has a wipe disk function, I could try that and see if it makes any difference.

I currently have it restored to the MBR/Win 8 with my Acronis backup. Not sure when I'll get a chance to try it again, with my recording sessions (in my home recording studio) scheduled this week.

I had formatted the drive with Acronis, but then with the Win 8 install disc I deleted all partitions and then let Win 8 format the drive and create all the partitions.
