Hi.
I'm new to forums :)
I have win8 installed first. I would like to dual boot with win 7.

I have disabled secure boot and enabled legacy all that special stuff I'm supposed to do.

No matter what I do I keep getting error Windows can not be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.

What step am I missing? I DO NOT want to format. Is there a method to get rid of uefi would I have to find a downgraded bios?

Thank You.

Are you using a Windows 7 install DVD and booting to the UEFI version?

What is the configuration of the partition you are trying to install to, formatted or not, how large, etc.?

Could you get a picture of your Disk Management window and attach using the paperclip on the advanced replies?

I'm sorry but I really don't want to format anything to do this dual boot.

There must be a way to do this without formatting. I have win7 64bit and it still gives me the error above in my original post.

I have created a new partition etc....

I already have win 8 installed this was done by manufacturer(acer).

The 2nd tutorial only applies to a windows developer preview(you can't get it anymore).

I will try to get screenshot wife's using it right now.

An alternative would be to install Windows 7 in virtual. That works better than dual boot - in my book. Here is how - just specify Windows 7 in lieu of /8.

Theog.
The first tutorial shows the person getting the same error as me.

As you can see windows cannot be installed on disk0 partion3.
So this tutorial won't work.
The second tutorial applies to the relesed preview copy of windows 8.This is no longer available from microsoft.

1) Why do you want to install Windows 7 on the partition wth Windows 8 is in install to?
Windows 7 would need to be installed to Partition 5 for a dual boot.
Also the screenshot you post is Windows 7 not Windows 8.

2) The dual boot tutorial is for Windows 8 DP,CP,RP, & RTM.

Theog,
Yes the dual boot screenshot I posted is for windows7 and it can't be installed.

As I mentioned I want to dual boot win8 and win7 I already have win8 installed.

Neither of the tutorials you posted apply to what I want to do.

The tutorial is out of date because you need a copy of the windows 8 preview, that is no longer available to anyone.

Have I not explained myself well enough.:(

I want to install windows 7.

Like I said I have created the partition windows7 will not install on it because the selected disk is of a GPT partition style.

That is the same error in the tutorials.

The Windows 8x64 Pre-installed is installed in UEFI mode & GPT mode.
It is OK to install Windows 7x64 install in UEFI mode & GPT mode.

Windows 7x64 will not install to GPT, when the DVD is booted in non--UEFI mode.

What you see here is not an error. All that is implied is that the Disc 3 Partition 0 line was highlighted when the snip was made. Note that you have gone too far in the first tutorial. At the bottom of the tutorial, it says:

"When dual booting with Windows 8 Preinstalled & Windows 7

Follow Step one to five in this tutorial:
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7"

After step 5, you need to do what theog says:

"Then follow this tutorial: (installing in uEFI mode.)
Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista"

Note that what I say below seems logical to me, all things, considered, but I have never performed the indicated steps. If I am wrong, then, hopefully, theog will straighten things out.

From this link, my inference is that you use UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with to continue your downgrade to Win7 under UEFI.

From here, my inference is that you go to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 8 with, as referenced in Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista, to install Win8 under UEFI.

Note that, in effect, you will have setup your dual boot having Win7 installed first.
