    Dual Boot Problem No. 2

    1. Windows 7 on first drive
    2. Windows 8 on second drive
    3. Manually swapped drives by unhooking cable and plugging it into whichever I wanted to boot.
    4. WD MyBook worked fine as long as I swapped the individual drives around.

    Then . . .

    5. I partitioned the Windows 7 drive and put Windows 8 on the new partition.
    6. Dual Boot system was uccessfully created on Windows 7 Drive.
    7. My WD MyBook continued to work fine after Dual Boot was set up.

    Then . . .

    8. I unplugged the Dual Boot drive and plugged in the "abandoned" drive with Windows 8 on it because I needed to figure out which of my Office 2010 product keys I'd used (I have several) for Win 8.

    And that's when disaster struck . . .

Although my WD MyBook shows up, it's no longer shown as MyBook, but as Local Disk K: and when I try to open it, I get the message: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I went into Disk Management, and the drive info says it's RAW. Which I think should be NTFS, but I'm not sure, nor am I sure of how to change it.

Plug the my Book back in to a working set up.
    or

Download the Paragon free try Rescue kit:
Rescue Kit Free Edition | PARAGON Software Group - free partition software, hard disk partitioning
    Try the undelete partition option.

What a complicated way of operating. Why don't you make your life easy and install it like this. See also second link that shows you how it works.

I think you may have misunderstood what I was attempting.

What I had planned is that once I found the product key I'd used for Office 2010, I was planning to "dump" the single boot drive with Widows 8 on it and use the dual boot drive with both Win 7 & 8 I'd created.

Thanks, Theog. I have plugged the MyBook into every computer in the house except for the NetBook. Two desktops and two laptops later (three of which have never seen Windows 8 and have Windows 7 installed), still no joy.

I will try the Rescue Kit, and hope for the best.

Question: Should I take the MyBook to the "virgin" Windows 7 desktop? Although I'm having no problems with the new dual boot system, I'm not sure if I should try anything else on it for now.

My bad, I had missed the point. Sorry. That's what you get from 'power reading' - LOL.

Theog, I am waiting for Paragon to send me the key(s). Evidently, this isn't something that automagically happens when you register and download after business hours.

I have the program utility burned to DVD and am waiting, <clicking fingernails on desk> . . .

Yeah, because so far, at 1:03 PM Central, I still haven't heard anything from them. Sigh . . .
