How has this thread revived itself?

Some criticism of the oems here.

Do any of you know the average manufacturer margin on a laptop?

If you did, then you might understand what is going on.

I think one might justifiably level a different observation,. The oems should not have got themselves into a position where they were so reliant on one component supplier ( in this case the os ).

I once talked to an executive of HP. He told me that they make more money on printer ink cartridges than on laptops.

If I install Zorin Linux in Windows 8 on a virtual machine what exactly does that mean? Can I setup Zorin with my own files and settings or is it like running a live CD version where nothing can be saved?

In a virtual machine is like in a real machine. You can treat that like any other OS installation. For Zorin setups uou might want to have a look at my little video.

Note, the video may start a bit in the middle, just set it to the beginning.

Is Zorin running on a VM immune to Windows viruses and malware?

It is certainly immune to Windows viruses - those would not be able to operate in Linux. But there can always be the odd Linux virus although I have not seen any report of that being a real problem.

It is always a good idea to install an antivirus program. Here is a little Linux selection. Read the text, it is interesting.

I see VM Ware is over $200USD, is there a freeware VM, or at least a more reasonable package that you are aware of?
    Thanks,

VMware Player is free and does a wonderful job. I run 6 virtual systems with it.
