Stuck Already Downgrading From 8 To 7

I have a new Vaio Laptop... I have printed instructions from Sony Support on how to install 7 on an 8 computer.
In case you wish to see them.... Sony eSupport - Windows® 7 Clean Install Instructions for Windows® 8 PCs

I am stuck at number 7 of Installing Operation System (Sony List). I change the Boot Mode to Legacy, booted to the Windows Install CD, and went to Custom Install.... At the screen where there is a list of hard drives, and partitions.... I did number 7.. picked Disk 0 Partition 2... I get a message from Windows Installer (OEM 64bit Home Prem) which says... Windows cannot be installed to disc 0 partition 2. The selected disk is of the GPT style. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers bios menu.

I went chatted online with Sony... basically I get the feeling they don't know. The person said to switch back to UEFI. I told them Why? as the instructions just had me switch from UEFI to Legacy. Then they said they were sorry.. hold on... Came back with a "reset the BIOS and see what happens !!!

Any Suggestions ? Thanks In Advance !

edit..There are 6 OEM partitions... I tryed them all.. got the same error

You can convert a GPT disk to a MBR disk, but it's totally destructive.

See here: Change a GUID partition table disk into a master boot record disk: Storage Services

You could also try installing in UEFI mode, see here: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

Have you tried starting up to your Win7 install DVD and seat-of-the-pants-ing it from there? Also, are you aware that you can install Win7 under UEFI? Just to get you started thinking about this possibility see this Win7 tutorial, and see this tutorial (for both Win7 and Win8).

Thanks To Everyone For All The Suggestions. I came across a free program which I installed last night. For me, not being that experienced with computers, the program, ex7forW8, works excellent... so far I am real happy with it. I am sure you have probably heard of it, but just in case, here is a link to an article... Disable the new Windows 8 interface for good with Ex7ForW8. Actually title is misleading because you can switch back and forth between 7 and 8.

After a quick and easy install, and adjusting my preferences, I boot right to a Windows7 Style Desktop. There is a FULL Start Menu complete with Shut Down, Log Off, and all your "Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, Computer, Control Panel, Devices and Printers, Default Programs, Help and Support items. Even the settings are, there complete with the Display as link, or as a menu. The Metro interface is gone... The gateway, if you want is gone as well... In the start menu there is a Ex7forW8 folder. In it is a "Switch Shell" Icon. I moved it to my W7 desktop. I can switch back and forth from 7 to 8, or 8 to 7. It logs you off, and relogs you into the other interface. I'm sure many of you, whom are more computer savy, might have some issues with it... but for me it does everything perfectly. I have my W7 and all my icons.. and my auto changing wallpaper.

The reason I did not like W8 was if in Metro, and I clicked on a program I added, Macrium Reflect, Comodo Firewall, Avast Antivirus, Quicken, etc... I could not exit by sliding the program to the bottom of the screen like you could if you were in the Metro ap. The W7 program would sit at the very bottom of the screen. I would "x" out of it to close it, and be left at the W7 desktop, even thought I started from the Metro interface. For me that really sucks. If you are going to make W8, then make so it's completely separate from W7... don't do a half a$$ job. Just my non professional thoughts... and then there's the no start menu... how lame !!! Anyway, for now I have the advantage of having both W7 and W8... and without the hassle of a dual boot system... creating which is beyond my comfort zone. Hope I haven't bored you... Again, Thanks to you... Have A Great Evening Everyone !! Steve

The only disadvantage to Ex7ForW8 is you lose all access to the Metro/Modern interface and Apps. Some consider that a plus. I did for a while but now I've switched to Start8 from Stardock. It gives me a Start button and boots directly to the desktop but still allows me to play with Metro/Apps as I want.

    Not free, costs $4.95.

Yes, While you are in W7 that is true... you do loose Metro. But all it takes is a double click on "Switch Shells", wait for the log off, and auto logon into Metro with full functionality. Another thing I dislike about Metro is you loose the W7 task bar, and along with it, go the little icons on the right side that show you status of, and give quick connect to your anvirus, firewall, internet connection, speaker volume, and whatever else.

Well, Good Night All... And Thanks Again... If it were not for the forums... I'd be bald by now from pulling my hair out because I had now clue how to fix something!!

IMHO Start is back is better start menu solution for windows 8
StartIsBack - real start menu in Windows 8
Its from same person who made Ex7forW8 but lets you use start screen/metro apps and windows 7 start menu same time
Its cheaper than start 8 5USD for 5pcs version 3USD for 2 pcs
