Installing 7989 as dual boot (issue)

There may be a few users with this issue but as no thread yet exists I'll post here...

An hour ago I installed the latest leaked build (7989) on a seperate partition (Dual Boot) and installation went without a hitch. Once the setup had completed and all restarts had processed I was faced with a shiny new build of Windows 8

    Here comes the issue...

1, After a manual restart I was given no boot option relating to choosing which OS to boot up, Windows 8 started instantly.

2, After running MSCONFIG I noticed that there was now only 1 option and that was for the current running Windows 8.

    To fix the issue...

Boot up using the Windows 7 DVD and choose the advanced options, at which the "searching for Windows" dialog appears. Seconds later I was prompted that a Repair & Restart was needed so I click the "Repair & Restart" button. I was then given the options I was first expecting...

    Windows 8
    Windows 7 (Recovered)

After selecting Windows 7 (restored) all is now as it should be

This may be an isolated case but for those who experience the same dual boot issue then follow the guideline above.

It happened to me once with build 7955 and I used EasyBCD 2.1 to recreate the missing entry, but the "Repair" method is safer in my opinion.

Thanks OS, my dual boot went without a hitch. New to 7989 is that it is called Windows 8 in the boot menu.

I, too, am having a dual boot issue. Only, for me, it keeps giving me an installation error after the installation "completes." It says I need to upgrade?

You could try installing Windows 7 again but as a dual boot then upgrade it to Windows 8.

Do not activate the new Windows 7 as this process may be frowned upon because of the EULA regarding your product key
