A different way of installing Windows 8

Over on the sevenforums I have posted a tutorial on how to install Windows 8 independent of your current system and make it portable at the same time. That may be interesting for those that are not yet sure about a permanent Windows 8 installation. Have a look here: Portable OS - Carry your OS on an external drive - Windows 7 Forums

Thanks for sharing! I might have to give this a whirl. I have a few small SSDs that I want to try and put to good use.

Absolutely. It is so easy. And the SSD you can even attach to a USB2 port. There is little performance difference. But make the initial installation on your host system and then copy the VMware folder (should be in Documents) to the external SSD. I found that to be easier and more performing.

The license is for 1 system at a time. In this case, the system is VMware Player. And if you put it only on 1 external disk, then it can only run on 1 system at a time.

Now if you put it on several external disks, that may be borderline - to say the least. But for any Linux distro, you do not have that licensing problem.
