I am running W8 U trial software which will expire shortly. In the mean time I bought a Win8 Pro disk from Ms. What is the best way to do the pro install: Is there a way to just use my new key and go on or reformat and install pro.?

Hello, meebers. Never heard of Windows 8 U trial software. What do you mean by that? Release Preview perhaps?

The Windows 8 Pro MS is an upgrade edition. Do you have a qualifying OS to upgrade from.

According to "system" on control panel, it is officially called Win8 Enterprise Evaluation. U=Ultimate, hangover from win7? Yes the two physical backup disk's from Ms are 32 bit and 64 bit, containing win8 and win8 Pro +. Further reading states must un-install and do a clean install. :(

Sorry to hear that and sorry that EE must be uninstalled. They were explicit in that before installation. Perhaps you overlooked it. I know others did. It is not a qualifying OS for upgrade either, unfortunately. :( Do you have a qualifying OS to load?

There is a way to fresh install as long as one has a qualifying OS. I'll look for it.

Edit:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2234-upgrade-install-windows-7-vista-windows-8-a.html

I think Release Preview and previous also qualify, but not sure.

Edit the edit:

What I found from this page of qualifying OSs:
Upgrade to Windows 8 - Microsoft Windows
Upgrading from -> What you can keep
Windows 7 -> Apps, Windows settings, and personal files
Windows Vista -> Windows settings and personal files
Windows XP -> Personal files
Windows 8 Release Preview -> Personal files
Windows 8 Consumer Preview -> Nothing, but you can retrieve your files later from the Windows.old folder.

Ugh!!! So win8 enterprise is gone, win8 pro is installed. Never asked for previous system etc. (did a clean install) Presently working on getting win8 & win7 talking to each other over my home network UGH!!! should not be this hard. When enterprise was in there, had no problem, Pro is fighting me at the moment:zip:. Will try to get WMC installed before tomorrows deadline. Have Office 13 in que after that. :dinesh:

Ok good. You're making progress. :) I'd advise to get updates installed and get the OS to stabilized before loading other software. So often we're in a hurry with our new toys. :)

Good luck and enjoy.
