UEFI and Windows 8 Pro DVD

Hi there, just a quick question about UEFI installation. I've got the Windows 8 Pro DVD but I lack USB Flash Drive 4Gb, is it possible to install Windows 8 with UEFI support with the DVD support or as written in the tutorial the USB Flash Drive is mandatory?

I think theog refers to the the tutorial you are talking about. Check out this quote from the tutorial: "1. If you have not already, you will need to create a Windows 8 installation bootable USB flash drive for UEFI from either a Windows 8 installation ISO or DVD."

Use of the word "need," as I think you recognize, should imply that you cannot "i
nstall Windows 8 with UEFI support with the DVD." Nevertheless, I don't know why you can't and wonder, as you apparently do, why not. I do not understand theog's explanaton. But, I would like to.

No where in the EightForums tutorial is the use of a USB Flash Drive mandatory,

Some of the confusion comes from a DVD being created through the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade download was not configured to be UEFI bootable. If you have a purchased DVD, it should be fine.

Well, OK, then why is the word "need" used in the quote I supplied? Maybe the "need" statement is incorrect. Am I correct that you disagree with this usage?

Of course, I am not the OP. But, assuming you are correct, then that's a great clarification to know about. Thanks.

Sorry about that guys, I wrongly interpreted the sentence quoted by znod : "1. If you have not already, you will need to create a Windows 8 installation bootable USB flash drive for UEFI from either a Windows 8 installation ISO or DVD."

As I finally tried with the boot menu of my mainboard and I found a selection as linked by theog. I was able to install Windows 8 Pro with UEFI support.

Thanks again for your answers and help and sorry for my misunderstanding.

To be clear, we were under the same interpretation of the sentence I quoted originally, right? And, to get things going, you used a purchased DVD, not a DVD created through the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade download, consistent with what Saltgrass said, right?

We were under the same interpretation of the sentence that you originally quoted but I installed with UEFI support using the DVD created through the Windows 8 Advisor Upgrade.
