    Hi,

    Me again.

I have downloaded Windows 8, but the laptop bluescreened on me during the "Getting files ready" stage.. Good 1st impressions

I rebooted and launched the download Windows icon that had been placed on the desktop. The "getting files ready" started again, and this time completed, but the ISO I burned is only named "Windows". Everywhere else I look the file is called "Windowsx64-pro-EN" or something to that effect.. Should I re-download it, or just use that ISO? The file size is 2.63 GB.

Sounds like you downloaded a 32-bit Windows 8 ISO. Did you download the ISO on a 64-bit PC?

My head is starting to hurt. I am trying to download the ISO using the guide below:

Windows 8 Upgrade ISO - Download or Create

But after I run the Windows8-Setup.exe file it immediately takes me to Step 7 to install by creating media again...

It seems all I need now is a 64-bit ISO. How do I get this??

When downloading the upgrade you need to

    information   Information

If you need to download 32bit Windows 8, download from a 32bit PC.
If you need to download 64bit Windows 8, download from a 64bit PC.

Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade

You will need to wipe the partition first to upgrade from x32 to x64.

    Hi Theog,

I have downloaded the ISO from a 64-bit PC - as stated above the download was only 2.63 GB, which Brink states is the 32-bit ISO. I am also going to wipe the partition (whole drive) of the Vista x32 once I have the correct ISO.

I cannot get the 64-bit ISO for some infuriating reason, as stated in my previous post. This is why I always ask loads of questions, because it invariably goes wrong.

EDIT: There is a folder at: Appdata/Local/Microsoft/ called WebSetup that seems to have the upgrade assistant exe in it. Do you think I should delete that folder and try the ISO download again, or is the setup.exe looking at the ESD folder on the C drive every time it executes? Will I have to try and download the ISO from a different 64-bit PC now??

    Velisario,

Was it a Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro ISO that you downloaded?

Mine was a Pro and was about 2.8 GB.

If you downloaded a Pro, then delete the hidden C:\ESD\Windows folder, and try again to see if it's the same size.

Should be a Windows 8 Pro ISO. That's what the e-mail states I ordered, and have a product key for. In the ESD folder under Windows/efi/boot there is a bootx64efi file.. Does this mean it's a 64-bit download?

If it's safe to delete the ESD folder I'll try that.
