    32 bit install problems

I had Windows 8 Enterprise on another tablet and I wanted to install Windows 8 Pro on it.

I formatted the hard drive and used the 32-bit retail upgrade DVD. Why 32 bit? I already played with
the 64 bit on my other tablet so why not install the 32 bit on this one. BTW: Enterprise installed just fine
and was working great on this tablet.

So, like I said, I formatted the hard drive and then booted from the DVD. The installation seem to do fine except
for some small blip where during the setup phase it rebooted, came up with what looked like a SFC scan screen and was up only for a few seconds and said it was repairing something..flashed some stuff on the screen, the rebooted again. It was maybe 5 seconds long so it was hard to really see what it was saying. Looked like maybe it was cleaning up some temporary install files???

So, it booted up like the other 6 times I have installed Windows 8 on various other machines. Except this
time, it booted into the desktop. I waited a good 2 minutes and it stayed in the desktop. I could swipe the charms menu and bring up the Metro interface but it did not boot into it. I rebooted again and the same issue.

Also, it did not put in the CD-Key. This was an upgrade DVD. I tried the tutorial that is listed here
for clean installs with an upgrade key including both step 5 and step 6 and both steps failed. Like one other time, I'm gonna have to call Microsoft to activate. Pain in the butt.

It is curious, though, that it boots into the desktop. Step 5 is to refresh the installation. It seemed to refresh successfully, said it was refreshing the PC. I halfway expected THAT to fix the boot into desktop issue. But, nope. Still boots directly into the desktop.

I'm not sure what the glitch was on the install and most likely whatever it was it is probably related to this problem. I'll probably have to re-format and re-install again.

Unless anyone else has a better idea?

Yeah, I went ahead and jut put the 64 bit on this tablet I put on the other.

The reason why step 5 on the "activate using upgrade license" did not work, which is the "refresh PC" step, is
because following the instructions on how to refresh Windows 8, it fails. It asks for the media that you used to
install Windows 8, which in my case was a UUSB key. When I put the USB key in the PC, it says that I have
not inserted the media. What I had to do was use the refresh from the F8 screen on bootup. THEN is recognized the
USB key when asked for and THEN it activated my Windows 8.
