Three steps to heaven?

Hi All,

Normally I would just blast ahead with this and "damn the torpedoes" but with a head thick with cold I'm happy to ask for advice.

I've got Win7 64 bit running fine on an SSD (see screenshots below), and Win 8 Pro 64 Bit in a partition on HDD also running fine. Vista 64 Bit is on the same HDD as Win 8 and is the licence I need to "lose" to comply with the Eula.

Step 1 - BCDEDIT shows the Bootmgr in F: (Windows Vista) and I would like to move it to C: Win 7. I have EasyBCD 2.2 - if I use that to "move" the bootmgr to the SSD do I have to do anything else? e.g. reorder the Physical Disks on Mobo, or BIOS?

Step 2 - Delete Vista Partition and Boot entry.

Step 3 - Install second SSD and move Win8 partition to it (I've reduced it's size to less than 128Gb) using Paragon 12 (I have Paragon 11 - would that do the trick?)

I'm only on Sata 2, BTW and UEFI etc are for the future!

Any ideas & comments etc?

Regards

Robin

After moving the boot files to Windows 7 C:, remove Disk 0 (Vista & Windows8).
Make sure Windows 7 will boot OK.

Your step 3. but install to a USB Drvice for cloning.

Make Windows 7 HDD Drive, disk 0
Windows 8 HDD Drive, disk 1.

Win 7 is on the SSD Disk 1. I have a second SSD (not installed) to take the Win 8 I've got already up and running.

I don't need to "install" anything.

Do you mean switch cables around? Change things in the BIOS?

The boot drive is best as Disk 0.

Aha - I see now - could be fun re-jigging the inside of the PC but I'll wait a little (howling gale here and power goes on & off a lot. Don't trust the UPSs to run long enough to complete operations!).

Thanks

Robin
