Solved Win8 crashed, reloaded and getting .NET error

My Win8 installation crashed this AM and the repair tools couldn't fix it. I ran the "Reset" option, which keeps my settings and data but reinstalls Win8. Well, things seemed to go OK, but none of my settings were kept (I had to reconfigure Outlook 2013, etc... and I'm getting this error now, which is preventing me from installing Acronis, Nero and VDownloader. Anyone know what the fix is for this?

I'm considering doing a fresh install of Win8 "from scratch" and not use the "save settings" feature since I think that may be what is causing this problem...

No, I tried that and I kept getting the error that I posted. I found a document on M$'s website that walked me through "fixing" the problem but it didn't work and then I couldn't run any programs, things went downhill fast. I booted up with my Acronis TIH Emergency Boot Disk and reinstalled an image from 11/2012, from when I was running Win7 Enterprise and it only took about 20 minutes and I'm back up and running, albeit Win7 Enterprise. I think I'll stick with Win7 on my main PC and install Win8 on a test PC and play with that. I really don't like how fast things went downhill and how Windows Recovery couldn't recover and it didn't keep my settings. It will be awhile before I trust it enough to put on my main PC.

I'll do some digging and reviewing log files (saved to a different hard drive) to see if I can determine what happened... Thanks for your help, though!

Sorry to hear about the problems with your Windows 8 installation Art. Would you mind letting us know what you find out about what happened? I chose to do a clean install of Windows 8 and things have been rock solid so far. But it would be good to know about potential problems.

Thanks! The Win8 Reset/Refresh was just too wonky and was not running correctly, so I used my trusty Acronis System Recovery DVD and I'm back up and running Win7 Enterprise again. I'm still having trouble with Outlook 2013 seeing the data file it's supposed to use and my Windows Home Server 2011 client isn't setup correctly, but I'll figure that out. I'm disappointed that my Win8 experience ended like this, but I'll try it again soon, just not on my main PC!
