[DUALBOOT] Mac OSX and Windows 8?

Hey all.

As much as I DON'T like Apple for a lot of things, I do admit that OSX is a fairly tidied up operating system, and I find that it'd be perfect for some of the software we use at college that apparently isn't on Windows, and it would be good for syncing with my iPod Touch (in which I post from most of the time).

Question; is it possible to DUAL BOOT my current installation of Windows 8 Pro with WMC, with Mac OSX Lion? If it is, how? And if not, how could I run Lion virtually?

I have 3 options at the moment.

1: Using the "Niresh" Lion ISO that I downloaded (I'm not a pirate, and I DID buy a legitimate copy).

2: Use my legitimate OSX Lion DVD.

3: Buy Lion from the online Apple Digital Store.

Now, trickiest part is that I'm rocking an AMD processor, and after vivid researching, I've stumbled across the fact that Intel is the way to go for Hackintoshing. That's why I'm opting for the Niresh ISO, but as I said, I still went out and bought a legitimate install DVD.

So, is it possible? I WAS able to use OSX Snow Leopard in VirtualBox, but some stuff I needed required Lion. If it comes down to it, could I DUALBOOT using SL instead?

Well, best option would be to install mac os lion into vmware player, or just download already prepared files for vmware player.

Apple software is licensed to run on Apple hardware only -- you can easily run Windows on an apple (Intel) machine either via a VM using parallels or native via Bootcamp. Ms don't care what you run the OS on -- could even be your late grandma's cat for all they care so long as you've paid the license fee for the version of Windows you are using.

The other way round (I.e running Apple OS'es on PC's) is possibly technically illegal but it's a grey area in law -- if you've purchased the software the restrictions on use might not stand up in court if Apple were to chase you --in any case they've got bigger fish to fry looking at their on going spat with Samsung - but some people allege it can be done

have a look at this site (Mods -- I think this is just about within the law here as I'm not saying how to PIRATE OSX but how to deploy a legally purchased version of OSX - but if it breaks the rules please delete).

Try the site here. Note you MUST use your own legal copy of OS X.

Thanks for the information man. Yes I do have a legal copy, and a pirated copy (please don't get on me about this anyone, as I still did buy a legal copy before this; I pirated a certain copy because of apparent AMD supported files).

Apple do seem a little well, denying of people running Mac OSX on non 100# official Apple hardware but, like you said, they've got Samsung and now HTC as well I think, to handle.

Virtualization; sounds the way to go ultimately. I'm currently using VirtualBox for my OS virtualization, but I hear VMWare is better, so I'll look into it. If Chrome OS and Windows 98 (LOL) run in VMWare Player, then I'll change to that!

I'm thinking maybe just run OSX Snow Leopard, then virtualize Mountain Lion or Lion in Parallels... but I don't know how running a virtual OS in a virtual OS would go. Sounds very, well, resource-hogging and will probably be unstable.

Anyway, for now, I might shop around for a cheap notebook capable of running OSX (a recommended Hackintosh device).

Not sure OSX can be run in a vm.
OSX86 can be run on some pc's but hardware support is very limited (basically hardware that Macs use, or similar).

well, you can find on some torrent sites (i.e. rutracker.org, maybe some others) already prepared images for vmware player, so all you have to do is to download it, and then to import prepared virtual machine. you also need to enable hardware virtualization in your pc in order to be able to run mac in virtual machine. Also, you said, that you were "able to use OSX Snow Leopard in VirtualBox", so using lion in virtual machine is no different.

Chrome and Win 98 run fine on VMware -- I think you can even run windows 3.11 on VMware provided you can find the images -- these are I still believe available on TechNet !!!. You have to emulate a floppy disc to install the VM but vmware's virtual machine wizard takes care of that.


If you want to try ANDROID Ice Cream Sandwich as a VM -- using Mouse and keyboard instead of Touch --this works too - and even an app or two will run as well !!.

There's loads of images available all over the web but this should start you off.

Confirmed Windows 3.11 ( and Windows 3.11 for Workgroups) is STILL available on TechNet -- screenshot enc.
