Hi all,

I have 2 drives on my pc, one running win7 ultimate 64bit, and the other win 8 pro which was an upgrade from xp pro.
Didn't realise that the xp was only 32 bit so i'm only able to use half my ram.
If I do a clean install of win 7 on the drive with xp/win 8 , will the product key I purchased for the upgrade (through xp) still work to upgrade win 7?

I believe it is possible without needing to install Windows 7. The trick is to get hold of the 64 bit installer; as I understand it, when you run the Windows 8 upgrade, it looks at whether you're running 32 bit or 64 bit in your old Windows version, and gives you the matching Windows 8 installer. So to get a 64 bit Windows 8 installer you need to download it from a system running a 64 bit version of Windows.
