For my upcoming Win 8 Pro experience, I am building a newPC: i.e., new case, mobo, processor,SSD, HDDs, graphics, ram etc. etc.,whose hardware, I/Os, etc. will be fully Win 8 compatible.
I currently have a few years old Win 7 64 bit (OEM version )desktop PC.
Once the new PC is built, what are the chances of insertingand (attempting) to boot up from my current C:\ drive and then upgrading to Win8? Is the OEM Win 7 likely to rebel in not recognising the new hardware?
I know I can alternatively try a Win 8 Pro clean install (onthe new bare SSD or HDD) and do the Registry workaround (reported elsewhere) to hopefully enable Activation
I already have the Win 8 Pro DVD Upgrade media from mywife’s Win 8 Pro 64 bit laptop upgrade and will be buying another Win 8 Pro productkey for my new PC.
(For those not aware, the Microsoft backup discs compriseseparate discs for 32bit and 64bit and within each disc, standard Win 8 and Win8 Pro.)
Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated
Pedro

The first issue, the OEM version is only legally licensed for the original PC it was installed on. You will not be able to activate it on the new hardware, as it will sense the new hardware. You will have to install the drivers for the new hardware (if it will boot up).

Its an iffy situation. Some will boot up with the new hardware (even though it will sense the new hardware and you won't be able to activate) and some will not boot up.

There are reports, and probably something on this forum about using an upgrade version to do a clean install, without having the old OS. Do a search on here.
