Roll back to Win7

Is it possible to roll back to win7 from win8?

I purchased win8 pro as an upgrade from win7 through Microsoft so I do not have a disc. I've looked at several vids on the internet and nothing worked.

I have tried start up and recover, win8 is the only system available.

I purchased my laptop with win7, so no disc or recovery disc.

I also tried setting up a vhd and boot into that, it did not work.

Any thoughts?

1. You can try and restore from Windows.old folder - harder than it used to be .

2. You can use the .wim ( or several split wims on the original recovery partition that your machine came with. Assuming you haven't deletd it.

3. You can get a windows 7 iso download, do a clean install using the product key that came with your machine. It will be on sticker somewhere.

Option 3 is probably easiest unless you are a geek.

What SIW2 said. Although I'm not in the same predicament, I purchased a laptop with Windows 7 but it has no CD. I was able to download the ISO image to make a disk, and my laptop has the product key sticker on it. So I'm in business.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?



You can order OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.
Most OEM's will ship Recovery DVD's for FREE, (may be a postage fee)

Thanks everyone, I'm afraid the .wim has me stumped. I'm trying for a backup version but HP wants me to buy one, and it's still under extended warranty. Evidently things like recovery disc are not covered under extended warranty, only under the normal one year warranty. That's a bit rich I feel. I bought extended warranty.

Might just have to stick with Win8.
