I will redo this process even though I recall doing it before at some point. I don't expect it to work.

What Bios options do you have for the mSATA slot? Is there a place in your Bios to set the drive to primary. You might check a Boot tab for such a thing. I just suggest this because the mSATA may not be treated the same as an SSD.

Did the system have an mSATA drive when you got it? If it did, do you know what is was being used for?

Was the SATA controller set to AHCI originally?

The install attempt did not boot after recleaning and redoing the gpt conversion. Reboots after initial install back into installation media. Drive does not show in boot list. removal of media results in no boot at all.

I have nothing to configure except Sata Controller Mode which is AHCI by default. This msata slot is present on all y580s and can come preconfigured for a cache drive. I elected for a model that would not have a cache drive preinstalled as I planned to order my 256 gb. My boot tab has the option for boot mode which is uefi. and usb boot which is enabled. Below that is the boot priority list which does not list my mSSD.

I just went to the Crucial site to check for compatibility. If I go to the mSATA's page, with I tried to link below, it appears it is not compatible.

If this is correct, I wonder if a bios update for your system, or a firmware update for the drive might help. And it seems they may have a new one, depending on what you already have.

One of the comments on that same page says the drive is being used as a boot device on a Lenovo Y580

Most likely, I'm going to bet they've locked me out of booting to my msata in this new hardware set. That guy probably has a win 7 model y580 and they take different bios. I had no clue from the beginning that using the m4 msata was going to be any different on the win 8 y580 then it had been on the win 7 y580. No bios updates, no hacked bios updates and the firmware upgrade for the drive itself is not UEFI compatible yet. PITA to consider reselling my drive to get something I can use right now. Lenovo is so infuriating to block this on purpose.
