Ether way should get you a message telling you that the system reserved is going to be created. I do the second option and create a new partition from the unallocated space, then I point it to the blank OS partition. I do believe the system reserved contains the windows recovery environment among other things. The stuff you get if you press F8. It's 100 MB for 7 and 350 MB for 8. Windows 8 has the reset and restore options so I guess it needs more space for the files to do that.

Ah, UEFI? I seem to remember seeing something about having to format your thumb drive in FAT 32 to install on a PC with EUFI? Something like that. My 5920 doesn't have a UEFI BIOS though and I don't think the 5920g does either..

OK, just wanted to make sure the new thread wasn't a continuation of this problem.

Yes it isnt! This ended right here!

Best Solution: Bios Update(How exactly an update help Win8 identify the sata controller?)

2nd best solution: Extra F6 Intel sata controller drivers to load on non-hdd presentaiton by clicking load driver....

    Insight Info:

If you want to have the 350 MB System Reserved partition in addition to the Windows 8 C: partition on a HDD or SSD after installation, then you would need to make sure that all partitions on the drive have been deleted until it is only unallocated space. Next, select the unallocated drive to install Windows 8 on. If there are no partitions on the disk, you will get the 350 MB System Reserved.

If you do not want to have the 350 MB System Reserved partition and only the Windows 8 C: partition on a HDD or SSD after installation, then select a formatted partition or drive to install Windows 8 on. If there are any partitions on the disk, you won't get the 350 MB System Reserved.

In my cleint's 5920g laptop when i booted form Vista Setup i deleted all available partiton except the [Files partition] and then hit enter on unallocated space above.

Acording to the info i provided above, since i left over a partition, thats why Win8 didn't notify me that it must create system reserved.

Then, files copied ok, but no system rserver partion created, menaing no BCD records thus failed to boot.

    Do you agree?

No, I've done the same procedure on mine (left the one data partition intact) and the system reserved was created automatically. I've done it both ways and I've always ended up with a system reserved partition.

Then why the information claims otherwise?

Are you sure in case 2 which is our case since we deliberately leave [data partition] intact you didn't delete all other partition and hit enter on the unallocated space?

It clearly states that yoiu need to
    ---------------------------------
    create a primary partition
    format that partition
then select it to start win8 copying files without system resever being created.
    ----------------------------------

Maybe you just deleted all the partition excect the data one and you selected the unallocated space for Win8 installation WITHOUT partitioning it first and without formatting it.

Maybe thats why it still created for you the System Reserve partition, because of the unallocated space you hit enter from, which looks similar to Case 1.

The first time I installed Windows 7 on my Acer I deleted all of the partitions. Then I created my OS partition by setting its size to what I wanted. Windows created the system reserved automatically. Then I partitioned the remaining space into my data partition.
Now if I have to reinstall Windows I just delete the system reserved and the OS partition, leaving the data partition alone. When I create a partition in the unallocated space Windows 7 & 8 have automatically created the system reserved. Windows 7 makes it 100MB and Windows 8 makes it 350MB. I have never ever not had a system reserved no matter how I have done it.
I think, if you don't want the system reserved, 1 the drive needs to be already portioned and formatted with no system reserved on it, and 2 you need to install to an already formatted partition. No deleting partitions or installing to unallocated space.
