Problems with boot order on my Samsung 350V5C-A08

I have just replaced my broken HP DV5 laptop (windows7) with a new Samsung NP350V5C-A08 with window 8 already installed. I am having major problems working out how to change the boot order.
On my HP the boot order was:
a) Optical disc drive.
b) Usb external hard drive.
c) Internal hard drive.

This configuration allowed firstly to upload Ubuntu 12.10 from a disc in the optical drive onto the external drive, this allowed me to run Ubuntu from an external hard drive, this saved me from having to partition the internal hard drive and I believe invalidating the guarantee.
With my new Samsung I cannot get to list the boot options in the bios (the only option is the internal Hitachi drive), I have been on the phone to Samsung but they could not help me and told me to contact Microsoft.

Does anybody have any ideas how I can run Ubuntu like I did with my HP laptop.

Thanks for your reply, I have read this but I still cannot understand why I can't see the boot order (apart from the internal HD) never mind change it.

Installing Linux

There’s nothing stopping computers from also shipping with Ubuntu’s certificate. Linux distributions can also publish their own certificate and ask users to install it – or ask them to disable secure boot entirely. Fedora will be paying $99 for Microsoft’s signing services, so Fedora will install on any Windows 8-certified PC with no additional configuration required. Other Linux distributions could also take this route.

Security Advantages

The traditional BIOS will boot any software. Normally, your BIOS boots the Windows boot loader or maybe a Linux boot loader, like GRUB. However, it’s possible for malware, such as a rootkit, to replace your boot loader. The rootkit could load your normal operating system with no indication that anything was wrong, staying completely invisible and undetectable on your system. The BIOS doesn’t know the different between malware and a trusted boot loader, so it allows either to boot.

Windows 8 PCs will ship with Microsoft’s certificate stored in UEFI (and possibly other certificates, depending on the manufacturer). UEFI will check the boot loader before launching it and ensure it’s signed by Microsoft – if a rootkit or another malware program does replace your boot loader, UEFI won’t allow it to boot. This prevents malware from hijacking your boot process and concealing itself from your operating system.

I have tried disabling both quick start and UEFI but the boot options is just the same, also if I disable UEFI Windows 8 will not lot.

I have tried disabling the secure boot control, but to no avail.I even tried loading Fedora 17 without success.

I have still no luck in changing the boot order. By disabling fast start, plugging in the external hard drive then doing an advance start the system does see the external drive, but no matter what I do I cannot get the internal optical drive to be seen. Please help Northerner
