Envy x2 shipped with no OS - How to install?

    Hi,

I live in Indonesia, and asked someone to get me the new HP Envy x2 tablet/laptop hybrid from Australia and bring it back here. I just received it last night and win 8 didn't come pre-installed. When I power on it says:

    Boot device not found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk
    Hard disk (3FO)
    F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

I'm not sure what to do, as I don't have an HP service centre anywhere near me. I'm downloading the win 8 x32 iso so I can make a bootable usb and try to install it from there, but does anyone know anything about the licensing?

As it's never had windows installed will it have the license baked in to the BIOS? I've read this thread about license keys on win 8 machines, but I'm not sure how that would apply to me.

I'm just really peeved off that I paid a lot of money for a computer and then have this happen.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to EightForums.

    I'm downloading the win 8 x32 iso
There are no legal downloads for the Windows 8 ISO.

Where do you buy your new HP Envy x2 from?
Can you post a web link.

    Hi,

Thanks for the welcome. I got it at HP Pavilion Envy X2 11-G001TU Laptop Tablet - Laptops - Tablets - Windows 8 | Harvey Norman Australia
Though it was picked up from one of the shops, not delivered.

Ahh.... I just googled and started downloading. I didn't know what else to do...

Looks like it's available direct from HP:
    HP ENVY x2 11t-g000 | HP® Official Store

I don't know if that's a pre-order link or if it's live, but Microsoft's online store says they won't ship one until January 2013:

You need to use the HP Manufacturers Express Warranty (12 months), to return for replacement or repair.

    Hi Cluberti,

It's out in Australia. I can attest to that I've got one right here.

Very nice indeed - I'd recommend reinstalling with the 32bit installation that should have shipped with that little gem, but getting the installation media can be a little tough. Your device should have shipped with something on the disk of course , but HP should provide reinstallation media on request. If you're still downloading media, be careful - there's no official ISO download for Windows 8 yet from legit sources, and some of the stuff I've seen downloaded has contained malware (not all, but some).

If someone you know has a 32bit Windows 8 (not pro or enterprise, just Windows 8) installation ISO or USB key with legit media, that would work.

Yeah, I thought I'd end up having to do something like that but as the computer's not out where I am (Indonesia) and it's silly to have to go to where it was bought (Australia) to get it replaced I was hoping that there could be another solution. I read in this thread that the license was baked into the BIOS so I thought that getting a bootable media might be a way to go about it.

I mean, I have paid for the license, right? It was included in the price of the computer.

that the license was baked into the BIOS
You may find that there is no code in the BIOS.
