Hello, I have recently upgraded to windows 8 from windows 7 64 bit. Now I feel I am better of with using windows 7 and I want to downgrade. Now all the tutorials that I have seen even one from this site tell me that I must delete all the partitions and remake them if I want to downgrade to windows 7. My question is what happens if I just format the system partition of my system ie. the C:\ drive?? What happens then?? Why can't I keep my other partitions?? They use the ntfs format just like any windows os. So why do I have to delete my partitions??

Did you do an in place upgrade, or install from boot?

Do you have a Windows.old directory?

There is no need to delete partition. Also Windows installation media doesn't have any option to downgrade. Use a Recovery disk or image that you have created while using Windows7 to recover with Windows Installation DVD/USB.

Or else, Format the partition with Windows 8, and install Windows 7 in it. But you have to backup or transfer the document and important files in the Windows directory in another volume or better keep it in any removable media. You will lose your programs and apps. And you have to reinstall it.
