Remove dual boot and move Win 8 partition

    Hi,
This is probably a sill question but here goes!
    I have one hard drive with three partitions;
C: Primary with Win 7 - original boot partition.
D: Extended partition with Win 8 installed dual booting with Win 7.
E: Primary with just data in.

I would like to move the Win 8 into the C: partition where Win 7 is and have a single Win 8 system.

There is nothing in the C: partition that I need. However I am hoping to keep all the installed programs that are in the D: Win 8 partition.

I understand that when Win 8 is installed as dual boot it rights to the original boot file of the original boot partition, in my case partition C: So, I assume a straight clone of the Win 8 partition would not work?

Any help would be greatly received,
    many thanks in advance,
    Martin

    Welcome to EightForums.

    Take look at this tutorial:
Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 - Delete Windows 7

But way have wrote your partitions out, it may not work.

Thanks theog for your quick reply.
I have looked at the tutorial.
I don't have a System Reserved Partition, I assume that needs to be at the start of the disk?
If I can create one what goes in it?

    Are you serious?

I expect if you had a freshly installed win7 system you would be surprised at just how good it is.

You Will need to convent the logical drive the back primary partition first, as OS's will not boot from a logical drive.

Partition / Extended : Logical Drives - Windows 7 Forums

Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD - Windows 7 Forums

You may find it easier to reinstall or delete Windows 8.

    Thanks theog.
As I have some work on at the moment that I can't afford to loose I think I will leave things as they are for now and when the work is finished reformate the drive and start from scratch, shame as I've got the Win 8 system just as I want it.
Thanks again for you help and advice,
    Martin

Parallels for Mac lets you run Windows in a VM, but instead of using a virtual HD, it uses the Windows boot partition from the dual-boot setup. Is there a way to do this in Windows 8? I have Win7 on a seperate HD and would like to make changes to it without rebooting
Hi Windows 8 users, I am considering triple-booting with: -Windows 7 (primary and default operating system) -Windows 8.1 (wanna use app-tools) -Ubuntu 13.04 (virus free, and can be used incase of system failure) This involves creating more partitions. I am no expert in partitioning, and I...
:o I'm a little embarrassed to say that I can't figure out which partition holds Windows 8 on my Dual Boot 7/8 system. I want to delete Windows 8 64 bit and reinstall Windows 8 32 bit, then update to Windows 8.1. I'm doing this because the system's old enough that 64 bit 8.1 won't install but maybe...

I was dual booting with Windows 7 and I deleted that partition. It is to my understanding that I would need to move the Windows 8 partition to the left before extending it. Do I need to use a CD, or can I do it from a program? Thank you.

Ola, so this may sound like a dumb question or whatever, but I just want to be reassured this is how I do it because, well, nevermind lol. Anyways, I'm wanting to remove w7 from my w8, w7 dual boot, would I just format the w7 partition then fix the dual boot options or w/e using easybcd?
