Hi there to everyone!

To begin, I apologize for my English.

So, what happened to me:

I had Windows 7 installed, then i decide to install windows 8 and maintain windows 7, that's what i did. and for about 4 months that's how it was.

About 4 hours ago, i decided that i would delete the windows 7 partition because i dont use that OS anymore. So i did, i use Partition Wizard to do it, and to resize the Windows 8's partition (make it bigger). I used Partition Wizard because i couldn't delete Windows'7 partition with windows disk manager. The program did the job, and said that it needed to restart, i restarted, and "operating system not found" is the message.

I booted the windows 8 disk, to make the boot repair, and the message after the reboot was "missing operating system".

Then I installed Linux Ubuntu, to see if i have access to the windows partition, and, I have! I can access the partition and all of it's files!

So can i restore Windows 8? Can I Re-install it and maintain every single one of my files and configurations? Can i have Windows 8 exactly like it was before?

I would apreciate very much your help.

Thanks in advance

You might try to get some type of picture of your partitions so we can check, but you probably were not being allowed to delete the Windows 7 partition because it was active and contained the boot files.

Try using one of the third party partition managers to set a partition active. Possibly the Windows 8 partition, but this might depend on your configuration.

After you do that, try running the Windows 8 Startup Repair, possibly 3 times, to get the system to recover. It tries to repair certain things each time, so it may take all three to get the system back, if changing the partition sizes did not mess something else up.

If that doesn't work, there is one more thing to try, let us know, but you need to have an active partition. And I am assuming you are running an MBR configuration.

You dont want the start up repair option, you should use the recovery option. Brink has it all here:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2269-system-recovery-options-boot-windows-8-a.html

I cant boot to windows 8, how do i do what says in that thread?

To just delete the Windows 7 partition, you need the System Reserved Partition inplace.

I've already deleted windows 7's partition. If i reinstall Windows 7, then i can dual boot windows 7 and 8? To then delete windows 7 the right way?

First backup any data you may want to save using the Ubuntu Live CD you had made.

Now wipe your HDD clean by any means.

To reinstall Windows 8 ( I presume it is Windows 8 Pro)

1. You can reinstall Windows 7 and then a custom install of Win8 over it, which will wipe of Windows 7

or

2. Do a clean install of Windows 8 as in this tutorial by Brink by installing Windows 8 and then refreshing it.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13375-clean-install-windows-8-upgrade.html

Since you have a valid Windows 7 licence which you will not be using, that should be in order.

I'm sorry. I'm not understanding.

With the other versions the same windows product key can be used? Since it is the same computer?

EDIT: I saw what you did...

Use the Recovery Options above.

NO need to reinstall.

2. From here, select the recovery option in Troubleshoot or Advanced options that you would like to do at boot. (see screenshots below)

Refresh your PC (Troubleshoot)

Reset your PC (Troubleshoot)

System Restore (Advanced options)

System Image Recovery (Advanced options)

Automatic Repair (Advanced options)

Command Prompt (Advanced options)

UEFI Firmware Settings (Advanced options)
NOTE: If your motherboard has UEFI, then you will have also have this option available in Advanced options. Check your manufacturer's uEFI BIOS manual for available settings in it.

Windows Startup Settings (Advanced options)
NOTE: You will not have this option if you booted from a system repair disc or recovery USB flash drive.

which one of these options? i didn't said on the first post, but I did the automatic repair, and nothing happened. It said that couln't repair anything. I did the fixboot command at the cmd like i've said on the first post, but change the error message to "missing operating system"...

Do i have to unnistall ubunto to do this?
The partition containing windows 8 is set to active.
the partition containing ubunto is set to hidden and inactive.
the partition that used to contain windows 7 is set to inactive.

i did the automatic repair, 5 times, then restarted the pc, and ubuntu booted.

Basically, what happened is you had Win7 installed as primary OS. That is where the boot partition and files were located.
when you deleted the 7 partition you deleted all the boot info as well.

My recommendation as others have suggested, back up your data wipe the drive and Reinstall 8 as the primary OS.
