Hello,

I am having a major issue with my dual boot system. I installed Win 8 on a clean partition over thanksgiving weekend and up until now all has been working perfectly and I have been able to use both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

This morning my laptop appeared to lockup and I went to reboot. I was working in Windows 7 at the time. When I rebooted I had no option to boot into Windows 7 and it went straight to Windows 8. I shutdown a couple times and restarted and never did my Windows 7 option come back up. I looked at my drives in Windows 8 and somehow my drive letters appeared to get switched. Originally Windows 7 was on Drive C: and Windows 8 was on Drive B: but somehow then have now gotten switched.

I'm not sure if that is what is causing the problem or not but either way I have no idea how to fix this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Mike

First find the computer management console (type computer management in the Windows 8 start menu and select the result, or find Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management) and you should see this:

compmgmt.jpg

Click on Disk Management and you should see whether both OSes appear.

If all is OK, type in msconfig.exe (again in the start menu and select the result) and you should see this:

msconfig.jpg

Click on Boot and you should see both OSes once again. If not, then something has been corrupted. More info is then needed.
