Hi.
I want to upgrade my old Vostro 400 running Vista to Win 8, but running the Win8 upgrading assistant i found the following uncompatibility among any other minor stuff:
"Intel(R) PRO Network Connections 12.1.11.0"

As far i know there are no new drivers available. Intel website refers to Dell and there is no Win 7 or Win 8 drivers for my desktop

I've read that it could cause that the PC doesnt connect to the internet if i upgrade, but i don't know what can happen if i just make a clean installation of Win 8, like formating the Hard Drive.

¿What can i do? I'm willing to do that, but if i'm gonna have problems connecting to the internet. As i said i dont mind if i have to perform a clean installation
Thank you very much.

Welcome to EightForums.

If you do a clean install, you will still need Windows 8 drivers.

That's a pretty basic networking card, I'd be very surprised if Windows 8 does not support it directly.

Just to be safe, download the driver you found and keep it on a flash drive so if, after Win 8 install, there is no Win 8 driver then install it.

What OS is your old laptop running? I have had success using a Vista driver in one case on my old HP laptop. If your old machine is on Vista, then maybe you could install a Vista driver downloaded from Dell using compatibility mode, but, of course, it would be better to have a solution in advance. You could always plan ahead to have a way to restore your current installation if driver finding does not go well.
